The OEM gasket is some type of paper material that breaks apart on its own over time. I have no experience with either kit, I just know those 2 are supposed to be alternative upgrades over the "OEM Paper gasket"
I thought the 2012-on use a metal gasket?

It's models after 2013. 2013 models were found having the same issue as well. if you're fixing it out of warranty I'd def go with EPS. The OEM can still fail partially due to the fastener being unable to torque down correctly. EPS issues new fasteners in their kit.

Mine is a 2013, no oil pressure problems (knock on wood) now. My understanding was that in late 2011/early 2012 they switched to a metal gasket design. I've seen some noise here and on the NICO forum about 2012+ warping and leaking too, but less common. Did they change it again for the Q40/50 models?

I need to adjust the trunk to fit better. It was fitting better on my G35X when it was on there, so it's either a matter of lining it up better or I may have to use my dremel a little.

I do like them but I don't think they are perfect. For me, they are a place holder until I can modify them. What I'd want to do to them is have the tails blacked out GTR style, so only the clear light sections are showing, black out the chrome, and have the lights replaced by a halo's. To me they are more exciting than stocks even currently. I still have an extra set of stocks in my garage. MAYBE I'd swap them out for JDM versions.

The other day I cleaned up my headlights! Sadly I can’t find the pictures... but I also cleaned my throttle bodies!

Side note, what’s this box in the last picture? Is it a baffle?

It's probably a crude oil (no pun intended) mist separator, to minimize the amount of oil mist that enters the intake tract.

Pretty sure that's a helmholtz resonator, designed to dampen intake noise.

Correct, it is a resonator. Thinking I might delete it, free the intake up a bit

You're correct. While the models featuring the new gasket aren't completely immune, the chances of experiencing a low oil pressure problem due to a gasket rupture is minuscule. No knowledge of a change for the Q lineup.

Thanks Hashim. The shop is Austin Z Clinic. Austin Z Clinic LLC - Austin Nissan Performance Headquarters
They specialize in Z cars and also work in G35/37s. I see a ton of 240 and 280Zs there. The owner Kevin's wife drives a G37 as well.
My car has been running well since I got it back. I would recommend him.

Re the 2012 and 2013s, because the oem fasteners can still loosen and backout causing an oil leak but not a complete gasket blowout, I got the allen head fasteners from CZP that could be torqued down. That's also why I felt like buying an 09 wasn't such a huge disadvantage.

Took it to North Carolina. Left the Z at the hotel yesterday and took the sedan up part of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to Lineville Falls and back. Then from Asheville to here today. Let the fun and games begin!

I'm surprised the factory doesn't stake the bolts like the bolt carrier allen-key bolts on an AR. I'm sure there are tons of other examples too - we used to stake or safety wire almost all bolts in aerospace.

Personal G37 content: I installed the black ebay grille and the Z1 after-maf silicone this weekend. Grille: looks purty. Silicone - I didn't expect any huge gains or anything, but it does whistle loudly above 7000 rpm. Not sure if the resonator on the passenger side handled that before.

Look up NC215 where it descends from the BRP. If passable, you will be entertained.

I'm not dead, I've been lurking

Finally had time to take care of the G a little. Put on the metal undertray. Such a drastic improvement.
