Or maybe it's the other way around... these numbers are getting all jumbled up in my head.

I'm fking done with it, Lego. After a day's thought, there's no way I'm going to do this tint-untint dance every single year.
Sorry, I'm terrible at the %s too, is it light blocked? Transmitted?

Sucks, sound like NY has essentially made aftermarket tint illegal.

On passenger cars, for the front and sides... yes, that's correct. It always was illegal, but only enforced by traffic cops. Now they've made it a hard-stop through the inspection process.

Trucks, and SUV's (and cars that pretend to be a SUV, like my Wife's CR-V), can still go full-on black tint on their rear doors, but not the fronts.

And IDK why the measurement stats about window tint don't line up in my head yet. Kind of frustrating, but like I said... it's a pointless exercise now, and I'm actively working towards not caring.

Best way too attack it... even tho it's hard to swallow the change after 6 years of it being a non-issue. As with anything, it will be come the new norm... life moves on

Been through this before. Bought my wife an S60 for her Anniversary and tinted the windows to 20%. 2 months later had to get the final inspection and I knew it wouldn't pass but my standby spot was being "watched" and couldn't do it. Had to pay to strip the sides and re-tint at 35% (legal). Snuck the rear window by at the same 20% though. I was fortunate my spot was available this year for my car as when tested it was only 14%. But it cost me... still less than the strip and re-tint dance though.

Now people will get to see your pretty face when you drive by Rochester!

I've never understood the SUV tint loophole. The factory tint on our Explorer is darker than the aftermarket tint on the front windows

Any eye problems in the family? I know someplaces make allowances for people with light sensitivities.

You know, the psychology behind that could be in my favor. If a traffic cop profiles me as a harmless old man, and that benefits me in some way... I'll take it. Sometimes I think my exhaust and occasional driving behavior makes me a target, although it's been years since I've been stopped, and never once in my G.

Nope.

Here, since I'm going on about this stupid issue... I pulled the car out for some photos. Still some snow on the ground, and I still have my winter-wheel setup.

But as you can see, excepting for the rear window, I'm tint-less now.

Very strange how my decidedly amber fog lights look yellow in this picture. How odd.

And you know, this is a pretty good shot representing fitment. Duckfeet and snowtires with 15mm spacers, dropped to 26 3/4" floor to fender, with a -2* rear camber.

...and the 4DSC decal is more easily noticed, although in that translucent silver vinyl, it really depends on the reflection. From other POV's, it all but disappears.

Thats such a silly law... I hope they never do something like this in Ontario. There arent any specific numbers the cops go by, so its at their discretion weather the tint is too dark or not. You can still limo tint the rear windows though if you want to, and its legal... for now.

That's unfortunate, tint always gives the car a clean look. So if the law says for 70% of the light to come through, you can still get by with 30% tint no? 35% is the law here in Mass.

70% of light coming through is equivalent to 70% tint. That's how tint is measured. 30% would be only 30% of light being transmitted.

I thought it was the opposite, 70% light coming through, the tint is blocking only 30% of it. I may be getting confused here so my apologies.

Negative, the % tint is the amount of light being transmitted through. The lower the number, the darker the tint.

This lack-of-a-template issue has been under my skin for a few days. But today I think I've got it covered in a way that's repeatable, with a high level of confidence that the line is identical to the current line.

Take three strips of 9" aluminum. Bend a 90* flap at one end on the vise, and cut a couple inches off the center piece. Then bend the pieces to conform to the crease in the trunk.

Use duct tape to adhere the three pieces snug to the trunk. Then stretch a 18" piece of aluminum across all three, butted up tightly to the bottom of the existing INFINITI letters. Bend the long piece gently, again to match the curvature of the trunk. Then adhere that long piece to the other three using strong indoor/outdoor mounting tape.

Put duct tape on the underside, so that you don't scratch the paint.

This gives me a repeatable template, making the only other consideration being centered placement, which is pretty easy, and can support a few mm of slop.

Lastly, cut the blue foam backing on the emblem so that the letters can sit flush on the template:

Now I can take the INFINITI off.

Oh hey, look at that! The "N"s are different.

Thank you for finally proving that I am not the most ****-retentive person on this forum. Just kidding.

Wow, I would have just eye balled the badges. It's weird, but I have tried measuring stuff like this in the past and it can be exact, but it will still look crooked. I find that your eyes sometimes play tricks on you due to what they focus on. (Plus it is way quicker just to eyeball align it)

I am also starting to think the Skyline badge would look good with the Infiniti emblem. (I keep going back and forth on the Nissan emblems) Just this morning I was thinking about getting the Skyline kick plates. Hmmm...
