Yeah, make with the swap already

The buildup to this has me dying in anticipation, glad the day is finally here!

 

Well, I have been racing around town like an idiot lately, trying to establish a good before/after perspective on things. But at the end of the day, any comments I have on this mod will be purely subjective and unscientific.

Lately I've been feeling like the car is getting too brutal, and this certainly won't help with that opinion. It got me thinking Next Car might actually be something cushy and luxurious. And then this morning I found myself parked at the light next to a dark green F-Type Coupe with a brown leather interior. My heart just about broke with desire for that car.

So. Freaking. Beautiful. So... that happened.

I'll be sure to comment about my impressions after I get the car back. And likely for a while thereafter still. In fact, you'll very probably get tired of hearing me comment about it, so be careful of what you wish for, LOL.

I've seen lots of videos with that engineering dude. He's alright.

I honestly don't want the R, or any R-variant. It's just too much car, and very likely will always be above my pay grade, specially after getting my girls through college. Also, after driving my buddy's P100d a few times, I've come to the realization that acceleration speeds like that are simply outside my happy place. So... either of the two V6 models would be fine. And actually, if their new 2.0T is worthy, that could be in the works, the lack of a 6MT in the 2.0T notwithstanding.

The other thing is that I don't like Verts. In particular, the F-Type Coupe is so-o-o beautiful as compared to the Vert.

 

Agreed. I'm not into the Verts either, Jag or otherwise. And yes that is a LOT of car, I didn't look up the price tag but I'm sure it's ridiculous..

 

Agreed. The new hard top Jags are some of the best looking GT cars I've seen in recent memory. Also, with regards to engine choice, the V8 is epic sounding but I feel like on daily commutes it might be too shouty. That V6 is the perfect sweet spot in my book. There's something about those Jag V6's...

Well? What's the verdict?

 

Texts back and forth with my mechanic late afternoon. He was wrapping things up around 4:00. Bushings are in place, new gears are installed, and he went for a test-drive.

Tells me everything went smoothly, and the test-drive was great. But the day was nearly over, and he wants to go over the car again tomorrow, and run through another test-drive. I also asked him to re-grease the FSB bushings, and thoroughly inspect front/rear suspension components, steering, brakes, exhaust, etc.

So it's all pretty encouraging. No surprises and no problems.

Sent me this picture of him checking the new gear wear pattern. I'm not sure what he's looking at, but he tells me it's spot on.

 

The sections of the teeth where the yellow is thinnest shows you the primary point of engagement for the surfaces. You pretty much want it to look exactly like it does. Centered and not oddly shaped.

 

Wow, this must be a far bigger job than I thought. Knowing how much $$ I paid for the rear differential bushings I cringe at what this must be costing you

We'll see. I've been going to this guy almost exclusively for about a decade now, and he's always been really fair on price. That said, I'm not expecting this to be inexpensive. Parts alone... bushings, gears, diff kit and gear oil came to about $1000.

Insofar as feedback goes after getting the car back... rain all day today and for the next four days. Nothing but rain. And me with nearly bald rear PSS.
