Now that looks like a very proper fitment right there! Are those Michelins? Just curious because I really like the side wall style on those.

FYI... 305/25R20's also have an almost perfect sidewall fitment on a 10-1/2" wide wheel.

 

That's not much sidewall though. Potholes? And by the calculations it's 2.5% smaller than OEM. Doesn't that throw off the speedo and such?

Almost the same sidewall height as the 275/30R20's that I originally had when I put the 20's on the car. 8 years later never had any issues. My wife says that the car actually rides better than with any of my previous set-ups , especially with the new air lift suspension and the Toyo tires actually ride MUCH better than the Bridgestone's I had on it previously.


You are correct, they are a bit smaller than the OEM 245/45R18. The OEM Bridgestone's are 26.7" overall diameter with 780 revs/mile and the 305/25R20 Toyo's are 26.1" overall diameter with 799 revs/mile. That small difference basically equates to about 0.30" of thread wear, so basically like running on worn our tires. Based on my GPS speed app the speedo is hardly affected by the difference. At lower speeds the difference is pretty much immeasurable... AT 40 mph it's about 1 mph off and at 80 its about 2 mph off... hardly worth worrying about.


I'm actually planning to try putting 315/25R20's (R) and 275/30R20's (F) on for my next set of tires so the rolling diameter difference would only be about 1% with that set-up. But I'm a bit worried the 315's might be a bit too wide for my 10-1/2" wheels. The 275's up front would be a perfect fit for my 9-1/2" wheels.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things, with all of the modifications we make to these cars, being 2.5% out of spec isn't that big a deal. Now 315/25/20, WOO, that would be legendary. Do it. Lol.

My tires are in, I have an appointment for tomorrow. Alignment right after. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight.

 

What kind of camber are you guys running? I like to have my street cars at about -1.25 once I lower them, regardless of what specs call for. What kind of tires could I run at that camber with ~1 finger gap at stock diameter?

 

That's very mild camber, basically stock. My front is -1.5 to -1.7 and -2.2 to -2.5. I'll post my results tomorrow.

 

I have my camber real mild, at -1.0, and was still able to fit my 295s on my 10+45 tires and current 285s on 9.5 +38. I like my camber at that set, I get extremely even wear across the tread blocks.
