Too big as in diameter or too wide? You want to stay close to your rolling diameter so you don't throw your speedo off. The widest approved size for a 7.5" is 235mm and widest fro 8.5" is 255mm. The wider you go, the more balloon the tire will become and bulge over the wheel. You could get chafing on the inside. I think Blnewt's suggestion is spot on.

Okay and for the stock power these cars make these dimensions are adequate yes? I have intake and full exhaust. Some time in the future the car will be tuned and probably cammed. If these wheels and that tire combo are good enough then I'll go with that. But if there is a better setup I'd like to know.
I've always been a fan of running better compound tires vs running the widest tire but mediocre compound. It all comes down to weight. 235/255 with a nice tire choice is plenty for a G. What Toyos did you have in mind, Proxes?

Yes I was planning on Proxes for TOYO or the ADVAN A052 or A048 for Yokohama.
edit: Or really any Proxes or Advan that I can find around me. lol They are all great options.
The Toyo T1 Sports get solid reviews, The latest Continental Extreme Contact Sport are getting awesome reviews, right up there w/ Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
If cost is a concern the Kumho Ecsta PS91s, Hankook Ventus V12 Evos are a couple of good options as is the BFG Sport Comp2.
Went with Toyo T1 Sports. 225/45/R18 for the front. And 255/45/R18 for the rear. It's what was available and I need these asap as my vehicle is pulling to the left horribly after the blow out and all the tires are looking ready to pop. I'm sure I'll be happy with these.
A 225/45 front 255/40 rear would be much better, as the rear will be just a bit taller, the 255/45 will be over an inch taller. If it's not too late to change your order I would highly recommend going w/ the 255/40s in back.
For all lowered RWD folks running 255+ up front- any issues with tramlining? I want to go 275 square.
I have 255/40R19 up front and I don't have any issues regarding tramlining. I'm also running a good bit of negative camber up front too, which is a contributor for tramlining, but I do not experience it, or at least have not noticed it. I drive majority hwy that's fairly well paved.

i have 2009 37x , i m trying to get Original R35 Gtr wheels.. i heard front is 265 and back is 295 ..
is it gonna fit well ? i saw few picture looks really nice
If you have an X you need to be very careful with staggered tire diameters, the GT-R wheels will poke way out in back, stick w/ all front GT-R wheels or try another setup, that staggered GT-R setup is much better on a RWD coupe or a Z, or better yet, a GT-R
