Well, at least do the ring gear- problem would be solved pronto for not too much coin!

Are you running the stock VLSD?

Yes I am, but I'm running the A/T one. All the 4.08 ring & pinions I've seen online are for the MT pumpkin. Are there even bigger ratio's available? (4.3'ish?)

Sam, I learned that there is a 4.36 ratio available for the Frontier. We all know about the 4.08's.

Now... does that fit in the manual diff housing because it may have a larger outer gear? I dunno.

That said, I sure wish I knew WHY we have to switch diffs. Apparently the gears 'won't fit'. Hah! I can imagine someone clever grinding a casting boss back and then getting the clearance. I wish I knew, but if I had the parts to compare it would be telling.

What a timesaver THAT would be. Someone who has actually seen the inside of the auto diff, PLEASE educate me?

(In my past careers as a tech, I made things fit that NEVER should have. Bingo!)

There's someone on the370z who fitted 4.36 ring & pinion. I PM'ed him let's see what he says. Problem is, finding diff housings here isn't easy (or cheap), last thing I wanna do is start experimenting.

Otherwise I'll just grab me an R34 4.3 diff and have it customized to fit, this shop just loves custom jobs.

2nd is currently redlining at around 90 mph and that's with a 7k rev limiter! I don't even want to know where my 5th will take me lol

My current exhaust setup (like 90% of my G right now) is custom . Starts with a 4" single down pipe, splits into two 3" via a y-pipe then into the 2.5" CF mufflers. I'm already bugging Tony to release 3" CF mufflers

I'm glad you're looking into the diff, man. No fun having the wrong gearing after all that work.

It looks like I'm stuck with 4.08's. Z1 Auto confirmed 4.363 will not fit

I've tried it, it absolutely does not fit correctly. Further, that part # for the 4.3 was discontinued and no longer in production - no matter as it wasnt a bolt in replacement anyway (I know, I own one).
Older skylines also came with R200 diffs with 4.3 option, will research that. I don't think 4.08's will do it for me.

Hey Sam, I'm going to ask the obvious: How are you measuring your speed? With a hybrid speedometer or a GPS?

Are you 100% sure these speeds are accurate? Reassure us.

Hey Coop,

I thought our vehicle speeds were measured from ABS sensors? The readings feel accurate to me to be honest, I will confirm with a friend later

For a quick reference... If you have an iPhone or Android, download a GPS speedometer. I didn't have a speedometer on my truck for almost a year because the sensor went out. I used this until I knew how fast I was going based on RPMs.

It seemed to be off by maybe 1 or 2 MPH. And yes... you can convert to KPH

I didn't know how the speeds are measured. All my past experience was through a transmission sensor, and I know yours had been changed.

Just put a speed reduction coupler inline between the driveshaft and the diff. LOL!

There, I fixed it!

Man that's genius! I'd weld a 20% speed reducing coupler into my driveshaft and call it a day! No joke

Hi Sam
Congrats on an intense transplant!!

I'm new here and only joined because I have a concern about your catch can setup as it shows in one of you pictures.
It looks like you have both of you valve cover vent hoses going to a catchcan which is good but if that catchcan doesn't have a third port or an air filter/breather then you have closed looped the crankcase and you will pressurize the engine and cause seals to fail.
Which could explain the front crank seal leak you mention earlier.

Also I would like to pass on some personal experience with an oil leak from the front seal.
My engine developed a leak that would keep coming back everytime I wiped it away at idle front the front of the engine.
This lead me to pull the front crank seal and take some picture to see inside.
I found I had cracked the inner oil pump gear on my greddy pump.

I would hate to see all your efforts lost to this so I felt I needed to pass this on.
Good luck with the build and I hope to see some great updates.
