Yes it was me, finally someone who believes me.

I told you guys about that februrary build date.

Thank goodness for INFINITI customer service, I would still have the same rattle.

(It's kind of ironic I have an FI cat back & pss hfc's on order)

so it's goodbye crappy muffler.. hello sweetness.

I get the same muffler rattle on a cold start at about 1100 rpm everytime. Peninsula infiniti dismissed the problem because they were not able to reproduce it.....obviously because they could not reproduce a cold start. I"m going to have to leave the car there overnight and start the engine in front of them.

It's not a performance limiting issue....but sounds aweful when it happens. I'll probably change the muffler to an aftermarket dual. But I don't like the Riceout look so whatever it is, it has to be tasteful...

I took my G37 in once for the rattle sound while idleing and the dealer just "adjusted some of the heat shielding" which did nothing and obviously I still have the issue. I've been waiting to see if they have a fix before I take my G in to service again, and obviously there still isn't a fix.

I noticed that whenever i turn my car off, it TICKS like crazy, for at least 30second to a minute... I am pretty sure its coming from under the car and not the engine. The sound is identical to the rattle i hear when the car is idleing.

My question is, is it possible that the metal used on the exhaust is some really cheap, lightweight aluminum that is constantly heating up/cooling even when the car is running causing the ticking/rattle.

Im just thinking this because I've never heard a car tick so much after shutting it off as my G37, and the two sounds are so similar.

Angry Me too, brutal (bad pun)

I'm taking my car in Friday to have the same problem fixed. Mine was a sort of a buzzing vibrating noise, primarily in the morning when the car was warming up and the engine was idling at around 1300 rpm.

I'm wondering if there's actually a "defect", or if the higher compression and increased HP on the G37 is too much for what is likely the same exhaust system as the G35.

I'm going to let them replace it, but I plan to look into a custom system soon. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

John

The muffler/ exhaust system on the G35 is different than the G37.

The G35 had just a single inlet to the muffler and a single midpipe. The G37 has a dual midpipe and muffler inlet from the y-pipe back.

Thanks

Thanks, I appreciate the info. FYI - The problem must be fairly pervasive. When I dropped my car off this morning, the service rep looked at my paperwork and said "Oh good, your parts are already here. They're now on back-order; I know this because I had to order two more this morning and I could only get one."

Did you hear that they're going to be coming out with a bi-turbo version next year? Supposed to be a 500 HP monster, 0-60 in under 4 seconds.

sigh... my exhaust note is progressively getting worse.. at first i only heard it for a bit in my garage when the sound echoed.. then i started noticing it outside, today i warmed the car up for 20-25 seconds and drove off.. i heard the noise for almost a minute while driving with the music on. later tonight, i heard it while parking after driving on the freeway for an hour

damn you infiniti!! gonna make a video clip tomorrow

Weird Exhaust Sound

Almost every time I start my G37 the exhaust makes a weird sound. It sounds like a rattle or something like a ping. It also makes this sound when I accelerate.... I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or heard anything about it.... Thanks

Welcome to the board. Do a search for exhaust rattle, you will find hundreds of threads on this. Long story short its a defect from the factory which they will warranty but many are having to go several times as the replacements end up rattling too.
