As long as your not redlining it constantly, oil + filter you can go more than 3k miles. If I was you, I would go around 5k miles and then send a sample to blackstone labs to determine how many active additives it still has. You may be surprised.
BMW used synthetic Mobil one and they recommend oil changes every 15k miles. I personally wouldn't go that long, but 5k miles should not be an issue.

i wouldn't trust any oil past 8k miles...no matter what it is.

i use penzoil ultra and still change it after 4k...personal preference.

This is just my personal preference as well, I used to go 5000mi with regular mobile one synthetic, now I just switched to mobile 1 EP, I think I will check it around 7500mi, then if thats ok, I will change it at 10k miles.. using Royal Purple filter.

There is a thread for oil related posts/questions. Why anyone would pay premium price for synthetic extended life oil and then change it more often than even a normal oil change interval is simply baffling.

BEST oil for a new 2012 g37XS 7AT

Hey guys,

What are your opinions on the best oil for this car?

Ive heard you can use normal oil, ive heard that synthetic is beneficial too.

Ive also heard to use a blend.

Ive heard to change it after the break in period of 1200 miles, ive also heard to change it at 3750.

IVe heard Mobil 1 is good sythentic oil, but it comes in several flavvors such as extended performance etc.

What is your proven best oil and at what intervals? Including the first change.

Thanks!

Why do you not think it was a good move?

Had some burnt oil smell after a couple of hard runs. Never had them with the Mobil 1. I also read that RP reformulated their blend and people are complaining. They say that if you want the original formula you have to step up to the HPS which is not recommended for vehicles under warranty. I've got to just pay close attention to this now.

Ester Oil?

My wife's 2011 G25x just turned 10k. As a compromise between the "severe duty" recommendations (3750 miles) and the "normal use" recommendation (7500 miles), I'll be changing the oil/filter at 5k-mile intervals from this point on. The dealer did the first change.

After changing the oil (5.125 quarts of Quaker State 5w30 full synthetic and a Purolator premium filter), I scanned several Infiniti owners' sites to get their impression of the process that requires removal of (what seemed like) 20 6mm bolts holding the lower plastic engine cover. What I found out was that I'm not the only owner to find the cover removal a pain, but that there was quite a controversy among owners (and dealers) as to what an acceptable oil would be for the latest-model 3.7 and 2.5 liter-powered V6 vehicles.

Owning 7 cars/trucks as well as 6 motorcycles, I've read quite a bit over the years about oil quality and suitability and find that the discussion of this controversy on the various owners' forums is just as inconclusive as the others I've read. Smart and knowledgable people disagree on oil.

So, I sent a note to Quaker State (who is now apparently owned by Shell) asking if their full-syn oil was suitable for our little V6. This is what they said:

"There was an update in the recommendation from Nissan. The "ester"
recommendation is for the additive package to be "ester-based".
Fortunately, all of our products have ester based additive package.
Thus, all of our products are fine to be used in your Infinity;
including our synthetics.

Should you need further assistance, please contact us at 800-Best Oil
(237-8645) option 42.

Regards,
Technical Service, sn

800-Best Oil (237-8645), option 42 "

So there you have it. If a company with deep pockets (as in potential suit exposure) and extensive technical resources says their products are well-suited for my G, I'm satisfied. What do you think --Should I trust QS on this one?

You don't need Esters. I'd trust any certified brand... I currently use PU.

I recently had my first oil change on my 2012 G37 around the 4700 mile range and replaced it with Royal Purple oil filter and Penzoil Ultra. First time I ever used 5W30 and the factory oil came out like water. I didn't know it was that light.

The hardest part is driving the car under the Rhino ramps which are awesome and necessary to do the oil change. Draining and changing the filter was pretty straight forward thanks to the other thread on how to change your oil.

Since I drive 90% freeway, I thinking about changing it out every 7500 miles.

I'm approaching my second oil change, where I'll be switching over to Penzoil Ultra Synthetic 5W-30, and the K&N HP-1008 filter. Everything is ready to go, and I just received the filter in the mail today... when I had a WTF moment.

This is the smallest oil filter I've ever seen! Barely 2.5" diameter and 2" deep... it looks like it belongs on a go-kart!

/disbelieving rant

Hhahaha... Agreed Rochester. In Pittsford right now.

I upsized from PL14612 to PL14610. They are still pretty small though!
