Here, post #265; https://www.myg37.com/forums/engine-...ml#post3710538
What engine oil to use? Blend/Synthetic/Esther
I was talking to the service department at Nissan (since there is no Infiniti here) and asked them for what options they have for oil changes. Following is the information that they provided me with. Any input would be helpful
Synthetic Blend is $37.56
Full Synthetic is $60-$70
Esther One is $100
Thanks guys.

I can check with them on brand and weight. From what I remember.. I believe they said Nissan brand for at least the Esther One.. and should be 5 quarts as that's the regular? Sorry, I've always had Infiniti deal with this so I lack too much knowledge. Thats why I thought it would be best to get advice from you guys.
They guy who I talked to at the service section at Nissan said that they suggest Esther 1... which happens to be the most expensive as well. If I really should get that and you guys would suggest, then I would go for it. I just dont want them to rip me off coz I lack knowledge in that area.
So I got this creative idea to poll the myG37 community about the brand of oil they use in their G's. I know there are tons of threads on oil changes, etc....however, with this poll/thread, there will be a central location for members to vote in the poll about what type of oil they use and have had success with through Used Oil Analysis (if available). This will be helpful to car newbies learn from the experienced folks how to take care of our engine's lifeblood. Let the voting begin!
Dynos show synth oils make more power over dyno oils for this reason (~2%).
I ran M1 in my VQ35 for 150k with excellent results. For the last few years Ive run the M1 EPS oil with 15k oil change intervals and run the best filter I can get.
On the Altima, I did use dino oil a couple of times and immediately saw MPG go down slightly.
My back of the napkin analysis shows that the M1 oil IS worth the extra $$.
Not changing the oil every 5K is also a bonus.

Does anyone know exactly what oil infiniti dealers are using? I bought a new 2013 G37 sedan and have 6 free oil changes. The dealer's service guy said they no longer use Nissan ester, but switched to Castrol Sythetic. I was wondering exactly which one of Castrol's synthetics.
If it turns out to be a subpar syth, then im just going to go M1 Extended Perf 5W30. Ive used M1 EP 10W30 on my built motor TT 350Z for 9 years or about 80k miles and it still runs smooth.

I was going to change the oil myself
I was reading this thread and pricing out what I would need to do my first for me oil change, when I got an email from my dealer for the $33.99 oil change special. Since I would need more than 5 quarts of synthetic oil and a filter it would have been close to sixty dollars. Looks like it's off to the dealer to sit in an air conditioned waiting room enjoying a cup of coffee and eating their donuts. Maybe next time?

It's like a word salad, man. The Penzoil marketing crew has to get their act together.
