I will be using Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 API SN at the end of the month.

quick question,

thinking about switching to M1 synthetic (I'm at 20k right now), what monthly interval would my oil changes then be? I know its 7500 for the mileage interval, but I don't drive much and I fall under the "schedule 1" category for primary driving condition (extremely short stop/go commute to work everyday), so would it be like every 5 or 6 months for the interval?

thanks!

Did you ever record it? I was simply referring to the timeframe covered by the TSB.

1st oil change! Help!

Proud owner of a 2012 G37xS coupe. Just hit 3000 miles and want to change out the oil. I'd like to run a full synthetic but I have no idea which to run. I've read on here Redline 5w-30 is a great choice, and the dealer said they use Mobil 1 5w-30 for customers that want a full synthetic. The guys at advance auto parts insist Amsoil, royal purple, and Mobil 1 are the best oils (typical) but I know this engine is harsh on oil and with all the hype on Nissans ester oil and the valve ticking caused by extended intervals with readily available synthetics I'm confused beyond belief. Is Redline worth it? My dad keeps telling me to use Mobil 1 and change every 6000 but I need a second opinion. Please Help!

Congrats on the new ride. I have the exact same car...picked it up three weeks ago.

It's my 4th Infiniti; (2) I30s and an M35x. The Infinitis, and every other car I've owned back to 1980, have seen M1 run through their engines. I've always run the original oil for 2,000 miles, then change to M1.

Listen to your Dad. 6,000 miles is a good interval. And despite the fact that this thread is all about oil brands, don't get too hung up on it. If you change your oil...any oil...regularly, you'll never had an oil-related engine problem. This I know from 40 years of car ownership and many different cars.

I used to use Mobil1 exclusively but then came the whole "is it REALLY full synthetic?" debates.

Right now I use either Valvoline Full Synth or Pennzoil Ultra. Read somewhere they are 2 of only a few that actually state it meets the ester oil "requirement" from Nissan. My car is a 2011 and doesnt require the ester but if I can get an oil that meets the requirement Ill do it anyway. I get the tick at startup (I think everyone does) but after the car is running for 15 seconds or so it silences itself.

During warranty Id at least try to stick with 5W-30, Im pretty sure thats something the dealer COULD figure out if you needed engine work under warranty. For Mobil1, I keep hearing that 0W-40 is their best product right now, but with the 40 weight its just gonna run the oil temp up high which ends up putting the car into limp home mode faster. Maybe not a big deal in everyday driving (might be an issue in stop and go), but just something to think about.

Only the Nissan Ester oil "meets the requirements" to be used for the VVEL tick, which is actually more of a thumping. The startup sound when cold is a different engine timing and A/F mixture designed to warm up the cats quickly and lower emissions. The two sounds are quite different.

Just received a UOA from Blackstone Labs from my 15,000 mile oil change with 5,400 mles on the oil. Blackstone said OK to run until 7,500 miles next time.
