My RB Project, going all in!
Awesome. I will be testing out my mods at the drag strip by that time as well.
isn't it true that the pressure before the throttle body is higher than after it and that a gauge showing the pressure of the manifold (boost/vac) is going to show a lower pressure because of this? ask him if his 2 bar guarantee is before the throttle body lol
That's probably not the best idea because you're reducing the total smooth surface area for the coupler to grab. If you keep the pipe smooth and spray something sticky on the pipe and coupler (like hairspray) it will hold better but really the best solution is to tack weld some raised spots on the end of the hard pipe for the clamp to butt up against so it cant slide. Or even better a bead roller. Here's a google image search showing a few different solutions and even tools to do the job: https://www.myg37.com/forums/**************/5G22o1
The vice grips is one i've heard many people using in the past to make their own pipe beads.
I was on my way to the local airport one day to get avgas (dumb idea but i was younger then) and I blew the coupler off and I freaked out haha. I had no idea what happened.
Anyway I cleaned the pipe REAL good and hair sprayed it to make it stick for the time being.
What did your friend drive?
Honda civic currently boosted at 480 whp. .. we welded all the elbows and mid pipes together to eliminate the need of all the couplers and lower the chances of pipes blowing off. Only places not welded are the intercooler, turbo and throttle body. Vtec power ftw!
So I've been raping the car a little ever since I got the high boost tune done. Notice a little coolant leak and the exhaust sounding a little funnier.
Sent her in for a check and surprise, the water pump has taken a dump. There was also a crack in the turbo manifold.
Lesson learnt, never cut corners. I bought a replica turbo manifold locally for $220 because I didn't want to spend $1500 on a decent crack-proof manifold. Two manifolds later, it definitely proved it cannot withstand the heat. The used water pump I had in was a gift from a friend who wanted to support my swap. Going with a Nismo N1 waterpump now. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger eh!

Christmas is here early!
RB26 N1 waterpump:

Figured I'd throw in some adjustable cam gear goodness from Tomei while the timing belt is off

And another beauty that will be wasted hidden in the engine bay, lifetime warranty against cracking

And of course, the manifold is too big for the G37 engine bay. Going to have a look to see what'll need to be modified otherwise that piece of art will be sold to one lucky son of a gun.
