Been following this build for a while now , very Impressive . The RB looks sick inside the engine bay , and the color is awesome btw , Sucks you gotta tare apart the engine but patience will pay off. Sam good luck with this build , I cannot wait myself to see this done and running .

Glad you are keeping the faith homie. The fact that the journey is a trial will only make the end result that much sweeter!

While they are building your engine, you should send out the appropriate equipment to get powder coated. Heat will most likely be your last enemy to overcome, especially in the climate that you live in.

You've barely driven it and not at all hard.

Do you think (I do) that the block was romped from the outset?

This motor should be able to handle 500whp bone stock, no?

How hard was this being pushed. Oil delivery/pressure problems?

Ugghh. Tainted love. I wish you better, but I'm skeptical of spending money on stronger parts when the core problem hasn't been dignosed. The rods didn't bend, right?

Update me.

Thanks Sam.

Sam, perhaps a little late in the thread, but I have to ask...

I remember a while ago you posted a video of a test drive you took in the Black Edition GT-R. If I am not mistaken, I believe you said that would be your next car. What made you change your mind and decide to build your G instead? Just curious...

Good luck with the engine re-build.

Haha, I'm guessing it was bound to happen.

You're 100% correct Coop (when are you not? ). Can the engine handle 500whp stock? Probably if it was in OEM condition. I bought my first RB30 block from the scrapyard for $350. The seller had zero idea of the engine's history, all he said was it's "good". The engine didn't even have an A/C compressor (to give you an idea of how old it is). Given its age and past abuse/improper service (engine came off a truck) it was a gamble. We ran a compression test on it (which only tells so much) and it seemed fine, so I decided to throw it in and try it out. The engine started and sounded very rough as you saw in the first video, but with a tune and a little breaking in, it got a lot quieter, drove it around the country and back with no issues what so ever. The bearings then failed on the dyno under heavy load and revs and damaged the crankshaft in the process. I was then left with two options:

1) Gamble with another RB30 for $350 and hope it works and handles 500whp
2) Build an RB30DET the right way, with forged internals, balanced crankshaft, race bearings, bullet proof oil pump and crank collar (RB OEM pumps have weak gears and are known to fail near redline)

I decided to go with option (2) since the engine is opened up anyways and since I plan on upgrading internals down the road for a peace of mind, I do not plan on babying this engine at all

Haha man I'm not that rich yet, and I figured a single turbo'd I6 MT RWD G37 would be a bit more fun, and who knows maybe down the road when this is 100% I'll research the idea of using an R34 AWD transmission
