What have you guys done with your spare tire in the trunk? I cant imagine it would be of any help with your setups, so what's your solution when you get a flat?

Short answer: I still have my "spare" wheel/tire in my car. I even have my OEM wheels/tires for situations like last week for me. Now on my 350Z due to the StopTech big brakes I have removed my temporary wheel/tire. It would never fit on the hub nor clear the brakes.

Long answer: Personally I think we need to call it what it has become today, "Temporary." Back in the days (1920's-1950's) when cars carried a full size wheel/tire calling it a "spare" was correct. It was an extra wheel/tire. Today the "spare" manufactures provide are for temporary use. Most have a speed rating around 35mph to 55mph max. And they are meant for short distances (50 miles) i.e.; nearest tire shop. Sadly people have relied on them as replacements due to the miscalculations of income to expensives. One buys a $20-40k+ vehicle but can't afford the $1k-$1500 in tires/maintenance.

Yep, only used to limp you back to a tire shop, it's really no different than using the spare w/ your stock tire set, it'll just look even funnier on a wide tire setup

It is too bad that all you get is that cheap temp these days. I had a blowout about a year ago, and even though I only used the "spare" to get to the tire shop about 10 miles away, the car felt incredibly unstable the whole way. I don't know how people drive around on those things for days and weeks at a time.

The last example of a true spare I personally experienced was on my 1999 BMW 323is. I hit a pothole and bent one of the front wheels. Fortunately, there was an exact replacement 16" (that was the sport size back in the day) alloy wrapped with a Dunlop performance radial in the trunk. I slapped it on, and drove with it for another year before I turned in the car at lease end.. Fortunately, the dealer didn't notice (or care about) the useless bent wheel in the trunk.

Funny this was brought up today. I took my car into Infiniti for service and notice while looking at the Q sedan that Infiniti charges $200 for the spare.

You have to check an option box to get leather seats on the Q also. Not cool that Infiniti decided to start charging for options that used to be standard equipment. If I wanted someone to nickel and dime me to death I'd go buy another BMW.

Really makes no sense to charge for a spare though, as its something that has historically been included with all cars, pretty much as long as there have been cars..

I'm sure they have always charged for a spare we just never saw it. Nothing is free not even the med kit Maybe now though we have the option to not purchase it?

Fronts should be good at +22, rears will be a bit tight at +22, a +27 would be better IMO.

255 on a 10.5 wide wheel? Wrong thread!

Let me just set the standard here… 255 or greater on the front and 285 or greater on the rears.
