Question

The dealer just changed my oil and they used Mobile Clean 5W30.
This is an ordinary oil and they did not try to upsell me to a synthetic.

Do you guys have any recommendations/comments about that?

Here's an interesting bit of info for someone changing their G's oil for the first time: there are no less than 16 M6x20 hex-head bolts holding the lower pan under the engine, and 3 push-tab clips.

Sixteen!!!

I'm thinking of replacing them all with SS or Ti, so they don't turn into hunks of rust over the next few years.

Purchased 2012 G37 Sedan on June 29,2012.Just had my 1st oil change,3900 miles,at dealer, who used dino oil. They recommended staying with dino oil for the first two oil changes to make sure the rings set properly?????(not sure they know what they are talking about since there a lot of new cars that come with a Syn. fill). They then say after the first two oil changes with dino oil,one can then go to Semi-syn or Syn. So my plan is to follow their instructions on the two dino fills and then go to syn. I will change oil myself from this point on. I will use dino for this 2nd change in 3K and then in another 3K go to Syn.,most likely Pennzoil 5W30 Syn.and then will change every 5K. I will use Wix filters. I have used this combination on previous vehicles without any issues. Why change now! Go with what has worked for you!!!!!! There are probably no wrong answers to oil and oil changes, as long as one uses a good quality oil and changes the oil at reasonable intervals.

The seems to be a common recommendation: first two w/dino, then switch to synthetic.

Since that's the path you're going down anyway, just roll with it.

Rochester, I just saw your post from June. You do realize that not all the screws need to be removed to change the oil?

LOL! After the fact I did, yes. But really, removing the entire panel isn't horrible.

I'd have enormous concerns running any brand of castor oil in your car, from Germany or anywhere else.

But I'm guessing you meant Castrol. And I'm curious why you'd want to run 0w30. Any particular reason for not wanting to use 5w30?

For brands, or dino vs. synthetic, read up and make your own choices:

Come on guys, OP is seeking help. Yes, you should be fine as long as it is 5w-30 SM required by warranty, but I prefer M1 EP.
