Leased G37: Oil Change Question

Hey Everyone,

So I need your advice on the two options that I have. I leased a brand new 2011 G37 recently. My first oil change was due at 3,750 miles. However, I had an ad hoc work trip occur in which I needed to drive so I am now at 4,300 miles. I plan to change my oil this week.

1) So if I go to Infiniti and have them change my oil, will I get in trouble for going over the mileage?

2) Should I change the oil myself or since it's a lease it needs to be documented?

Thanks!

I just leased my 2012 G37 on Saturday. The salesman told me that I can get the oil changed anywhere I wanted but to be sure that I saved all the paperwork.

In terms of mileage...no you won't get penalized for going over 3750 miles. It's an arbitrary number anyway. My salesman told me that most people wait until around 5,000 miles...unless you drive a lot.

Thanks. I agree, I didn't care for the 3,750 number but since i know they put that number there, I didn't want to get in trouble for abiding by it. My car is driven an average 10 miles a day and is garage kept.

As for paper work, if I change the oil myself, should I keep the receipts of the oil and filter?

Same here...i basically only commute to and from work each day. If I was doing a ton of driving every day I would stick to the suggested 3,000 mile mark...but it's not worth it.

Yes I would definitely keep all your receipts just in case they want proof that the work was done

those numbers are not set in stone. they are just 'good suggestions'

no one is going to repo your car if you go 5k miles without a change

I know that but this is my first time with a lease and i'm not sure how strict they are and if they charge you a lot of $$$ at the end.

The dealer called me about the free oil change, however the dealer I purchased from is 120 miles away. I asked if I could have it done at one closer to me and she said no.

When I bought my 2010, I got 2 free oil changes, one included a tire rotation. After those I did my own periodic maintenance.
The reason they give you free oil changes is to get you in the habit of coming to them when you need anything done.

The oil change police dont report that!!

The receipts are in case you seize a motor. It shows you werent negligent.

FYI, the manual says 3/3750 or 6/7500 depending on service type, so you are fine.
