I dont see the outer gear. Isnt it that one that brakes? Is there any way you can show a pic tof the assembly part with a broken gear and assembled part with your new gears? It just be nice to see how everything looks. Before & after pic.
Hi Guy,
As mention in the other thread, I received the flapper gears a couple days ago and have started working on it today. So far I've got the trunk liner off, removed the plastic cover and the motor.
I do have 1 questions though: in removing the rivet that holds the cover down, the head of the rivet came off and the cover came off, but there's a large piece of rivet still in there that I have not been able to get out. So, my questions are: 1. what width of drillbit do you recommend using? Maybe I used too narrow one. IIRC I used 5/32; and 2. do I need a special type of drill bit made for metal? I am using general purpose bits that don't seem to have the bite they need.
Thanks!

Normaly, if you remove the rivet head, you can simply punch out the back of it...it will drop between the 2 layers of the trunk panel ( that you would be able to remove later, after reinstalling, by opening the trunk backward and using a magnet stick insert in holes of the trunk back lid.)
OEM are steel rivets,...harder to drill but, no special drillbit ( a good sharp one will do the job).
Hi Guy,
I'm basically ready to put everything back together. But before I do, I wanted to ask a question about the grease. The stuff I got, general purpose lithium grease, seems very thin compared to what was in there. It seems kind of light and fluffy, rather than thick and heavy. So I'm wondering, is that going to be OK, or should I clean it out again and get some of the thick stuff...
Thanks,
Paul
