I'm thinking of getting a Daytona 392 Charger as my next car

 

This car makes my heart flutter as well. Saw a white one with dark, bronze rims and she was a looker to say the least.

I bought my car as a 5yo with almost 3 times the mileage and paid a little over 10k. This one at 2 with 57k for a little under 16, and they would probably take off enough to get a ceramic tint.


I love the thought of a 328i, I had a E39 and E46 they both made it to 220k and then weren't worth what it would take to fix it. I do wonder how reliable a Turbo BMW would be? https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...0888/overview/


Then there is a Toyota Camry which has amazingly bad resale for a Toyota. It is much better than they used to be. When I think that a car like the Ford Contour SVT which had less HP than the new camry and almost 60% better fuel economy. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...5795/overview/

 

I think when looking for a replacement, you will want something that matches or exceeds the driving dynamics of the G. Only then will it be thought of as 'worthy'. The Q50 seems to fit the bill, to a degree. Some bolt-ons to the 3.0 really wakes up the engine but the electric steering numbs the experience plus the lack of LSD from factory (I believe even the RWD only comes with an open as well).

Unfortunately, I heard the 328 has a lot of issues associated with it. I was looking into it a bit when I first got my G. Maybe it's fine stock and modding is what leads to issues?

The Camry, while receiving a nice bump in power with the V6, would probably pale in comparison to the driving dynamics of the G. FWD, and not built on the same platform as any 'Sport' car like the G. Maybe if it were going to be a DD only and there were no plans of modifications but in that scenario I'd need something else to give me wrench therapy.

Not sure if that's feasible or what your budget is but 5th Gen Camaro ZL1s have fallen into the 25-$30k range which is a TON of car for that price. Of course the 2017 1SS is available for even less than that. I also looked into the 2010-2011 S5 and not only do they come in a 6MT, but a 4.2 V8 that appears to be very reliable considering it's a German product. That model (8.5 I believe) has peaked my interests. I saw a low mileage one (less than 30k) for $22k; clean history. It's also FI worthy. Supercharger can be had with all the supporting hardware for <$8k and puts the car into the 11s on the 1/4.

 

I'm still reeling from seeing the word "Camry" in this thread.

 

Lol, I think it's going to be hard for a lot of us to find a car that is a true successor to the G37 and all that it offers. It's such a well rounded car and there's not a lot out right now that checks a lot of the boxes like the G does. Seems like you're always trading one characteristic at the cost of another. More power but less reliability, AWD but expensive, more refined interior but looks like a shoe, etc...The Camry pails in comparison and a test drive will leave a lot to be desired I imagine. One of those things some G owners will be curious about until they drive one; then they question why they even considered it to begin with.

If you're looking for the next closest thing to a G37, the IS350 or a Benz with the 3.5 will be the closest you can get IMO. I don't know anything about the Lexus but I do have experience with the MB 3.5. While very reliable, that vehicle is an absolute nightmare to work on. A simple spark plug change turned into a 2.5 hr job and after spending 30 minutes looking for the fill port for the front differential I gave up and took it in to have it done.

 

 

2017 SS is really looking good as a 2nd car right now. The front fascia looks great and they are very well priced. I saw one of the 2019 this weekend and that new front bumper is just..bad. The black paint hides it pretty well but anything other than that puts that ugly mug front and center.

 

Just thought I'd throw my most recent replacement thoughts out my current shortlist is, I've been test driving them and looking for a deal on one before year end:

1. 2011-14 Porsche Panamera 4s or Turbo - pros: almost everything (amazing driving and interior) it would be fun taking apart a Porsche in my garage, hatchback Cons: potential cost of parts even if I DIY, I can't find one with the adaptive cruise control at all which I love on my G and I can only find the Rear end I want on turbo models, cant find a 4S with the rear end I want either, potentially limited aftermarket...I may have to wait to fidn one specc'd the way i want I and in good shape
2. 2014-16 BMW 650I M Gran coupe with the executive package; Pros have great interior, tech and styling; Cons: cant get one with an LSD (cant afford the M6) and cant figure out aftermarket options so far....Don't really want to be a BMW driver
3. Q70L (5.6L); Pros: most about 10k cheaper than 1 and 2 and with way lower miles, super cheap to keep on the road, lots of parts in my garage from my g can be retrofitted to it: Cons: very limited aftermarket options


One thing I will say though is that the more I test drive and shop, the more I love my G and don't want to replace it all...I'm probably gonna hit 300k by the end of the year though so I need to be prepared

 

That's 186,000 miles. OMG.

Well, it certainly explains why you're leaning the way you're leaning... you do a LOT of highway driving, so having luxury, comfort & power makes sense.

Curious how you drive all these miles (kilometers), but don't think twice about the truly crappy mileage all these cars get. Particularly in the context of how much petrol costs up in Canada.
