Makes me sad every time I think about it. Getting it repaired has been on my list for 5 years now. Back then I had a $600 estimate to have the upholsterer replace the section with a new piece. I can only imagine what it would cost today.

Crazy, because I always thought I was doing right by the car keeping the leather clean, and yet it happened anyway.
post a picture. A strip of the finished leather just wore off? Something didn’t scrape it? I had just that section of my son’s truck done (both sides) and they also applied new padding so it’s a lot more comfortable. I want to say both sides were right around $500. You may want to check a few custom upholstery shops as that portion is available in their catalogs for most vehicles.

Embarrassed about this, but here it is anyway. It's both center panels now.

Nothing makes it better, the leather is rubbed raw and stained.

Do you keep your wallet in your right rear pocket? That looks like abrasion wear to me.

Agree. Wallet or jeans with some form of abrasive stitching (or combination of both) on the pockets.

Changed main front door speakers

Managed to get some time to change my blown front door speakers on my q40. I have no Bose or Navi and used some harness adapters from owc upgrades paired with some infinity kappa 62ix. I also had these pvc machined speaker adapters to fit the 6 1/2 speakers properly. They sound great imo without an amp.

It took me forever with bipolar florida weather. Started working, wiggled the door open to have it start pouring and as soon as It let out the humidity was unbearable. Nonetheless first time with the infinitis door panel and it wasn’t so troublesome

Which OWC adapter did you use? What speakers are in the door with a base system? Just 2-ways? Were the OEM base speakers 4ohms?

I used the NS02MW adapters for the front main speakers (haven’t done the back). Very easy installing just plug and play. The speakers in the door are 6 1/2 all around for the base model. I don’t believe the base oem speakers were 4ohms, perhaps 2?

I believe they are 2 ohms, but depending on how they are wired (series, parallel, series, parallel), the load on the Bose amp is unknown. The Amp's capabilities are important to understand when swapping out speakers.

You can attach a 2 ohm speaker to an amp designed for 4 ohms and it will sound much more efficient. May shorten the life of the amp if not designed for two ohms. Conversely, if the Bose amp is looking for 2 ohms and you add a 4 ohm speaker, the amp will be very stable but the efficiency will suffer.

Front speakers are key for imaging, but with Studio on Wheels, I am not sure how that is leveraged when bypassing the OEM amp and speakers. The Bose setup, while not perfect, is part of the Nostalgia of the platform, so I would hate to rip it all out.

Base stereo seems like a better place to start.

Replaced my sunroof wind deflector with newer style from Q60. Lower profile and quieter at least up to 50mph. How much quieter? Not sure. I hated the noise created by the factory one so much I never drove with it open, only tilted. I got the part number on this site and decided to see if it actually fit our sedans. Only $70 through Amayama vs $300-$400 at the dealer. 2 minute install.

This one? Link

When I installed it the cabin became so much quieter. Might not be as quiet on the sedans due to the longer profile of the roof but still a improvement all the same.

Good job!
