I got the turbo apart. One of the piston rings that hold the oil from coming out the backside,completely ground itself to nothing shavings all over everything. Can't get the owner of the turbo company to call me back. The turbo isnt even a true ball bearing its a half job it has a journal bearing on the backside. I got completely scammed

 

Hmmmm. I'm suspicious how TOO MUCH oil can do that to a steel piston ring, but I don't know. I dragraced journal turbos for years, with no BB's. I don't see that as a real big dilemma. They put the journal side on the highest load, I'll bet.

Buy a fresh turbo (from another source?), and then go through the rebuild/replace process. Yup, it's going to cost you anyway you slice it. You've saved a lot of money up till now. Now it's creeping at you. LOL! (Welcome to MY world! )

Lol coop thats the universe saying that's enough saving money. I don't really have 1000 to spend on a new reputable turbo. Been looking for a used one on forums and eBay

Damn, I've been watching this thread progress and sorry to hear the bad news. Hope it all works out well for you bro

 

After all that hard work PayPal denyed my claim because I opened the turbo. Had I not opened the turbo I would have never found out they lied about the turbo being dual ball bearing. I don't really have 1000 for a turbo right now so regretfully it will sit. Unless I find a nice used turbo cheap.

 

That's a sad situation, can't believe they did that is messed up.

Btw, I have been there.
Had to have my entire nitrous set up rewired, paid 2x for the same thing.
1 st install was a disaster by no limit motorsports.
Total fail, they ripped me off.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience but I have to be honest here, you just got scammed for buying a turbo off ebay yet you're still using words like used & cheap? I really wouldn't cut corners with the turbo.

 

Have you heard of a place called turbochargers.com. I have realy good experiences with them and their units, Price is great too

You could even send them your turbo and have them fix it

 

Just checked the site and they had a single turbo for 6k

Wonder if this is legit.

This could be way off base, but it doesn't instill confidence in me that a vendor has a well engineered and thought out turbo system when the listing for it spells the brand wrong, it has the wrong model name in the listing, and has no information at all on what components are included; just a price.

You could always get that turbo rebuilt for less then $600 at Precision Turbo. There turn around time i believe is 3 business days from the day they receive it.

 

I am a professional photographer for one of my two jobs. My most used lens stopped autofocusing and needed to be rebuilt. I didn't waste time: I ordered a brand new one (Sigma) and THEN went through the rebuild process, which takes time.

In the meanwhile I'm back in action and the other lens will get fixed and ready as a backup or sale soon.

I like the idea coop but I'd have to sell some of the equipment I just bought. I just got free standing drill press and plasma cutter. Word spreads fast took the car to a meet with the turbo smoking the day I finished it and I think I'm going to be building a kit for a local 370z. Or I can put my car on hold until I finish this 370z if he does decide to have me build this kit.

There's always that slim chance there's someone on the forums that upgrades a turbo for power and the one they take off works completely fine and will let it go for a good deal.
