85, That's BS !!! Read this thread...from the start. TSB may not be applicable to you as a 2011 G.. Inquire about it - It's a Reflash of the ECU ...some people find it helps, some do not. IMO, the 7 AT is a problem.

5At less issues from what weve seen and it has way more supporting mods

cy, it has Nothing To Do with the Tires.....It's all in the Electronics. read the Multitude of Posts on this Thread. There are great explanations describing the functions of the Torque Converter and the Transmission Control Module (TCM)....You will receive quite a lesson in Auto Engineering. Despite that though, my 2010 G37X has been a great disappointment for that ONE reason, the erratic perfromance of the 7 AT. With the so called Adaptive Driver Control electronics (check the infiniti Web Site), the ECU adjusts to the way you drive. I only notice erratic changes where one day it's Terrific - excellent driveability like my old 07 G35X, and then the next day lagging/ hesitation/ jerky in traffic, etc...even on the Good Days, I still experience jerkiness in stop n go traffic. The Tranny just does not "like" to be a coasting position. btw, I did have the IT10-075 Reflash done in January 2011. I felt that it became a little less responsive (See Sneakers comments) , did Nothing for the lagging, but did improve the downshifting while coasting 3>2, 2>1...

Given that it's a learning transmission and he's still in the initial break-in period, it's not patently BS. He should certainly get through the break-in period and do some normal driving before deciding that he has a real problem. You've made a number of valid points in your plethora of posts on the subject of the 7AT, but over the top rants detract from them.

Over the Top Rants ??? I think if I were the Only one with this issue, then it would be over the top ranting, but Infinit has admitted thru their regional DM that the issues are THERE. So it's not Ranting, only persistence on my part to get this rectified which I doubt will occur particularly after the situation in Japan. They had another earthquake at 6+ on the scale the other day...Focus won't be on addressing this issue.

dvuong85,

There is a technical basis for the dealer's advice, as I noted. After the break-in/learning period, if you still have issues, you should pursue them with the dealer firmly but calmly. Do read the entire thread and some others on this topic, and educate yourself on what are anomalies, like the lag Almatti and others experience, and what are design characteristics, like the sometimes startling rev-matching downshifts particularly in DS mode.

I appreciate "the lesson in auto engineering" comment, but you can't assume everyone here knows less than you, or is less read than you.

I sold my 1996 Porsche 911 to buy the 2011 G37. I don't know everything, but I do know enough about high horse power cars and ****ty tires.

My old 993 with tiptronic has "only" 268 horse power and rides on 255/40/17 Aznis tires and when I turn right and gas the throttle, I can get a power slide.

My new G37 with 7spd has 330 (or 328 depending on what you read) and rides on 225/55/17 GY touring tires.... The same right turn will cause a delay in downshift and ETC lights to flash for few seconds. You tell me what would Nissan Engineer like the car to do when they don't know who will be gassing the throttle and risk a power slide?

Right.

I's not the tires. Well, actually It's not the tires I agree with you. The whole issue is likely the amount of power the car has and safety on the road. Like understeer is supposedly safer than oversteer, hesitation with engine response is probably better for someone who doesn't know how to counter steer and getting into a power slide every time.

As far a going straight and having a hesitation, BMW that I test drove before the G is so much worse than the BMW I had in 2003. I have read elsewhere that the lag is built-in to the transmission, throttle and whatever the engine management software for gas savings measure.

A problem exists when it's only one car.
A design problem happens when it's everyone's car
A preference problem is when everyone on forum complains, yet majority of customers at the dealership can't understand what we are talking about.

i agree with you. my 7at had/has minor quirks similar to those mentioned here but i never got any tsb update. i have not noticed any lag or harsh downshift for 6+ months. maybe i may just have chose to accept any minor behavior flaw and thats why i dont notice. i love the 7AT. especially the upshifts which are seemless and quick its like bam-bam-bam and your at 60.

You do know you can turn off the VDC, at least somewhat. You cant compare a 1996 model car with a 2011 model car in the same sentence. It's a different league, more electronic nannies, etc. People say the same thing about a 2011 911 vs a 1996 911. They say the same thing about an E46 M vs an E36 M.

You are correct in my opinion, cars are built to minimize pollution and maximize gas mileage resulting in compromised rides. Unless of course you want to pay the gas guzzler tax than you can have your cake and eat it too.

Ranting? Really?

I had a G35 and loved it. My 2011 G37x has been in three times for reflashing and it still shifts like crap. Still has harsh downshifts, very dull on acceleration.

But the absolute worst part is that whenever you step on the brake to make a turn or stop at a light and then try to accelerate, there is a very consistent one second delay in response. I mean zero response for one second, which does not sound like a lot but really is a long time if you are trying to pull into traffic. I was able to reproduce this all the time with the dealer service personnel in the car and was told "that's just the way it is". BS. The car did not have these issues when I bought it and the reflashing seems to fade quickly back to the crap.

Oh, and the 3-4 seconds that it takes to shift from park or reverse to drive, just annoying.

I wish I had read this thread before buying the car because I never would have. Absolutely a terrible driving experience and I will never get another one. But then my G35 did not have these issues, so who knew to look?

I completely understand your frustration. I'm the same boat and learning more about it AND to live with it. I'm still trying to "learn the car" and modify my driving habits to match the idiosyncrasies of the car.

I'm also forking out the $850 for Pilot Super Sports (next week) and $1500+install for PSS10 (next month) to try to get the ride to my liking.

To be fair, I did test drive the BMW 335 and 328. Compared to my old 2003 BMW, the newer models are sluggish off the line (thanks to 2nd gear take-off) and slow to down shift just like the new G.

There are many posts on BMW sites devoted to aftermarket ECU flash and reprograms to get rid of these delays.

Don't take my word for it. Go try them for yourself on the BMWs.

At least the your dealer is honest....

But it was probably gratuitous and could have been left out of my post without diminishing the point I was making.

Alright, I literally read this entire post (all 46 pages). I have a 2009 g37x, and I have that flare issue. It isnt talked about nearly as much as the harsh downshifts or the hesitation, so I wanna know if this reflash fixes that problem "Flare issue?" I contacted a service advisor from the Bloomington, MN infiniti dealer, and he said that the flare is normal for this car. He said that it was the TC helping smooth the upshifts when the driver was light on the throttle. He said it kind of acts the same way the rev matching works for downshifting. I have never driven an automatic with more that 5 speeds, so I didnt know if this was true. To make a long story short, I drove my wifes 2010 GMC terrain with the v6. It has a 6 speed auto tranny. As i accelerated the vehicle in a mild manner, the tranny also did this flare on upshifts (only from 3-4 and up). I was stunned. It only did the flare thing under mild acceleration, just like the infiniti. So my question to you guys is, do you think that these trannys are actually made to do?

G37 Flare

I must admit that I have only had that flare issue once, and it scared the crap out of me since it was around the time of the Toyota acceleration complaints.

As for cy7878, I think it is absolutely crazy that a driver has to learn to match the idiosyncrasies of the car. The car should so one thing well and then the driver can learn to tweak that one thing to his/her advantage, not the other way around.

I have been a technologist for decades, but this is like they let an IT guy loose on a good car that has no idea how to drive.

But thanks for the third party info - I will look into that. I have 2 years left on the lease and need to make them palatable!
