I already am babying the engine and plan to do so until the 3000 mark.
Can anyone confirm if this is true that there are additives from the factory that help break the engine in? I was thinking to follow the book and wait until 3750 to do my first oil change, although the talk of doing it at 500 to get the metal shavings etc. out makes me really want to consider all options.

I can't confirm it, but I know Honda & Acura have 'special' oil they install to help with engine break-in. I'd assume that Infiniti does something similar, which is why the manual states no oil change until 3750miles.

You mentioned this again in another post. What are you talking about? Where did you get the information that 5W-30 full synthetic oil is "thicker" than 5W-30 conventionzl oil? Do you have any documentation or support for this?

I will recommend Mobil 1 and the following oil filter.

K&N====HP-1008 (AutoZone and PepBoys)
2008 INFINITI G37 3.7L V6 F/I - All Automotive Oil Filter

I did use the combination (Oil and Filter) on my 2004 350Z APS Twin Turbo Stock Engine and never have any issues (Florida weather over 10,000 miles Twin Turbo). I did two oil analysis and it fine!!!

JFTR from G37 OM 9-6:

Your engine was filled with a high quality
engine oil when it was built. You do not have to change the oil before the first recommended change interval.
At 3750 I'll be filling with Mobil1 and then will follow schedule3 thereafter (7500mi).

Using full synthetic oil does not mean it's thicker. For example, Amsoil has an 0W30 that is comparable to other 5W30 oils and can be used in engines that takes 5W30.

An oil's thickness has everything to do with viscosity.

I tend towards full synthetics because synthetic blends IMO are viewed as a waste of money.

I also stay away from Pennzoil and Quaker State.

It's either Mobil1 or Amsoil for me.

Interesting, because every oil company engineer I know says blends are truly the bargain in the world of oil. Pretty much all the benefits of synthetic at a much lower price.

It's either Mobil1 or Amsoil for me.
Also interesting because Mobil 1 stopped using a full synthetic base stock about two years ago. Amsoil does use a full synthetic base stock, but, Mobil 1 uses a petroleum base stock and adds synthetic to it, kind of like a blend.

I'm a little over 1k miles now, but I'm planning on just doing it at the 3750 mark unless I read something that really makes me want to change it earlier.

For my 350z, I changed it a little after 1k miles and started Mobil 1 full synthetic.

I'm not really sure what to do, I bought the G37 with thoughts that I wouldn't do my own oil changes anymore, I totally don't have time to mess around with it anymore between work and spending time with my lady.

I read somewhere in this thread that the G37 comes with Penzoil, or Infiniti uses Penzoil. What kind does the G37 ship with? Penzoil regular ol' oil, blend, or full synthetic?

Keeping my eyes on this thread though...
