7500 Mile Oil change intervals on Ester Oil

Without going into much details or stirring up an argument, I would like to keep the subject short and simple.

Is the Ester oil dependable enough to run 7500 miles between oil changes? Or should I stick with Mobil 1 that I am already using.

Also, is Mobil 1 Synthetic (not sure of the exact details) safe to use till 7500 miles?

Having my oil change done and would love some input on this.

Driving Habbit / Style:
  • Casual driver.
  • Less than or equal to 10% city driving. 8 miles on Weekdays.
  • 90% of mileage come from highway.
  • Not spirited driver, but I do have fun here and there pressing the pedal a bit and pushing through corners.
  • Never met the redline.

a "short and simple" oil discussion thread? i suppose there's a first for everything...

OP - i'm certain you can find the 'answers' (i.e. opinions) you are looking for by searching the countless existing oil threads.

No. Nissan Ester Oil is good for a max of 3750 miles. I had it in for 5k once and the UOA didn't look too great. No real issues but indicated that I could have changed the oil earlier. The value of Nissan Ester Oil is realized in that it plays nicely with the engine's DLCoating to lower friction for higher efficiency and lower noise

Mobil 1 will easily last 7500 miles. At those miles, it's not the oil you should be concerned about. The weakest link is the oil filter. Most don't last 7500 miles.

Meeting redline on the daily is totally fine on a properly warmed up and lubed engine. Redlines from factory are extremely conservative, and it's a good idea to at least let the cams fully lift every once in a while

I ran the ester oil almost 6000 miles once because of time, it was pretty dark when I changed it but nothing was out of the ordinary. I just kept off the pedal for the last 1000 miles or so (I know.. it was painful). Now I have Pennzoil Platinum Ultra Synthetic so I'm expecting 5000+ out of this change as well. I've heard the first synthetic oil change you do should be a shorter interval as it cleans out your engine a bit more, so if you go the Mobil 1 Synthetic route I would not go past 7500.

Pennzoil Platinum and the bigger Infiniti V8 Bosch oil filters (the V6 oil filter is the size of a thimble) and have gotten great results. I change at 6k but 7.5k is still reasonable.

I definitely agree about the Pennzoil and the tiny filter. I was ,however, concerned about the fitment of the larger filter with the AWD. Next change I'll get both and try the larger one first. If that fits then great. If not, well I'll just return it, provided I haven't mucked it up.

Some other members go with the K&N, I believe it is, with the nut-like protrusion on the end. This might obviate the need for a filter wrench. Again...fitment for AWD...hmmm

I have gone over 12k miles on AMSOIL and replace the filter every 5k. I have used it for over 500k miles and no loss of engine, just not the same batch! It's no more expensive than the "premimum" oil mentioned. Plus every time I change the filter the oil goes almost back to original color. Try that with any other, it won't.

Been doing 7k-8k OCI using redline(full synthetic ester) for 7 years now since my first oil change at 1k. Car has 130k on the clock now. Not one dime of oil burnt.
I drive pretty aggressive daily. 80 City/20 Hwy
I would not go no more than 5k on mobil 1. They tend to start shearing early.
P.S. don't use the garbage fram or oem filters. Use Wix or Pureone

Slate - what size filter do you use? Sort of interested in this now. Would like to go bigger on my X.

Can't help you there. I just buy it from rockauto
WIX 51358 {#PH6017, PH6017A}

I've been using BOSCH D3300 Distance Plus for the last 2 times and don't notice much. This one is a tad bigger than the WIX

I am using filter for M56 on g37x from day one, perfect fit. As for the brand, any brand for this application will work.

It's called advertising. Only a UOA will tell the truth.
