High RPM's

MPG will improve over time. Mine is much better than it was a week ago -averageign @ 18 I was averaging @ 15

Like most Nissans seems like the difference between normaly city driving, and gentle freeway driving is enormous, in terms of MPG. I get about 17mpg in mixed city/freeway driving, but easily 25mpg doing a steady cruise on the freeway. Just seems like the MPG plumets once you dip even half-way into the pedal.

I'm at 2700miles. Going back and forth to work I average a solid 18. Last night I did a quick 45min freeway trip (45min there, 45min back). With the cruise control, I was getting around 26mpg at 65mph.

Gearing seems a bit excessive, but only in the higher gears. The lower gears seem comparable to most other cars. Comparing to my wifes TL....
Redline:
TL: 6800 Redline
G35: 7500 Redline
First gear @redline:
TL: ~45mph
G35: ~45mph
5th Gear RPMs at 70mph:
TL: ~1900
G35: ~3000
Granted my G will pull harder than my TL without needing to downshift, but my G still downshifts into 4th all the time anyway, so why not have 5th geared for better cruising and MPG? Our TL gets 30mpg@80mph. Nothing beats humming along @ 85mph/2300rpm.

What's the top speed on the TL?
I think (for some reason) Infiniti is concerned with achieving a 150-155mph top-speed. Car&Driver timed 0-155 in the 6MT G37S at 36 seconds. Maybe they are trying to "compete with bmw" ? That sort of high-end speed usually requires fairly evenly-spaced, aggressive gearing.
I'm guessing Acura is not as concerned with this...

I had never been able to get 20 MPG or more in my everyday driving:
60% - Smooth Highway
10% - Stop and Go Highway
30% - City
But i just took a long trip (300 mile one-way). On the way there, in a good amount of rain and avg speed of 80 mph i got 19.8 MPG
On the way back, in sunny conditions i got 20.9 MPG with an avg speed of 80 mph as well. However, i had about an extra hour of travel time here because of horrendous traffic in NY and NJ Turnpike. So when i wasn't stuck in traffic, i was doing at least 85mph.
Would love to see what i could get on a nice long drive in sunny weather with no traffic. My guess is ~25 mpg.
btw i have almost 6,000 miles on my G now.

Who drives at top speed?
Frustrating if that's why the G has such low gear ratios, only to achieve better marketing props. Meanwhile the rest of us cruise at 3500 rpms daily.

It pulled okay in 4th all the way to redline at approx. 105mph? (it's been a while) but when it shifted to 5th, the party was OVER! It seemed like it would have taken an awful long time to reach its top speed...
