Review TWM Short Throw Shifter (STS) and Z1 Transmission Mount
Glad it got there so quickly! Be sure to let us know what you think (not that you needed me to say that).
Of course the growl is still there. Always present, always noticeable, but whereas when I first drove off with the mount installed I was always aware of it and it's all I could hear and think about. Now, I'm just driving and...that's it; I'm just driving as usual and enjoying the ride.
On my 25 mile commute home today, I had the radio off and alternated with the windows up and down, and that growl was neither a distraction or an annoyance. I may just keep it on after all.

Yup, I switched back to the OEM mount. I must say, removal and installation of the transmission mount is one of the more simple and quick DIY's I've done.
No more constant growl and no regrets. Sometimes a mod just doesn't work out.

Your car, your values. Don't beat yourself up about it... You tried something new with the car and figured out what you like.
Pretty sure you can sell that thing to Brad, or Kenny, or the designer of planets who won an award for Norway.

Is that a solid mount for the trans? If so, I can see why you switched back- that must have been extremely loud. If it is a poly mount- they are not all created equally. I had a Drop Engineering poly trans mount on my 370Z and took it off immediately because it sounded like someone cut off my exhaust completely. The poly on the Z1 mount must have been a lot softer because it is a night and day difference compared to the Drop Engineering mount in NVH.

The Vibra-Technics is solid rubber. The company markets it as harder than OEM, but softer than urethane. Actually, the phrase they use is "inferior aftermarket urethane"... which is over-the-top marketing speech, but whatever.
In any event, we were expecting Liam to have found a less in-your-face mount than the Z1, but seems even this was too much for him. At this point, we're waiting to see what slartibartfast thinks installing the Vibra-Technics in his 7AT-RWD Sport.

Sounds like over-the-top marketing to me. Has anyone compared a Vibra-Technics solid rubber mount to a Z1 mount? I wonder if it will be like my Drop Engineering Mount compared to the Z1. Both poly mounts, but the NVH was totally different.
Are durometer testers cheap?
Just fired up Google and already in a hole. What hardness range? At least A range testers are cheap.
Looks like an A-range tester is appropriate.

And an inexpensive A-range tester

Anyone have a Z1 or Drop Engineering mount not installed? I can send the tester after I take a whack at the Vibra-Technics mount.

Z1 Mount = Successfully Installed
Install Notes:
Driving Impressions
I'll get some more seat time over the next few days. I only drove around for a few miles today since I wanted to mow the grass before our Fathers Day party tomorrow, and because my nanny is taking the kids tonight, so wifey and I have a date night and I'm already tearing into some bourbon
Install Notes:
- Everything is 14mm. A 1/2" drive socket set with 6 point standard and deep well was more than sufficient
- I had adequate access on ramps, although bigger guys might need to get the car higher--I'm 5'10 170
- Mark the front of the transmission crossmember to avoid any confusion when you put things back together
- This is an easy install. Up there with changing your oil. It took me ~1 hour
Driving Impressions
- There is a lot less slop in the drivetrain
- The shifter doesn't vibrate as much
- The car is noticeably louder
- I like

Cool beans. Looking forward to some sober comments on the mod.
At this point for me, the mount and STS mods are so much the normal SOP, I'm actually feeling the itch again for something else new.
I think tomorrow morning I'm going to use the G when we all go out for Father's Day brunch. It's rare that we use my car as a family, but it's my day afterall.

I got some back road seat time yesterday and commuted to work today.
I love how tight everything feels. I can get fully into or out of the throttle at any rpm and there is no slop or movement in the drivetrain. There is surprisingly very little extra vibration.
I'm surprised at how loud it is. Maybe too loud. I'm not sure yet. It's not like an exhaust, where you can get into 6th on the highway and things settle down. It's always loud. 85 on the highway is just loud.
To Rochester's point, it's pretty rare that we use my car for family outings, but I think this might push me over the line such that we never use my car for family outings.
