This has been an awesome thread. I've learned a bunch. Got all my washing and drying techniques from here. I have a couple questions for my Obsidian Black G37

1. I have a few dealer installed swirls and aftermarket water spots although pretty minor, mostly hood and roof. I've been thinking about a doing a mild polish. What do you think about M205 with a white pad or would a black pad be enough (or should I follow white with black)

2.I've been reading about Meguiar's microfiber correction compound (m300). It sounds pretty user friendly (I'm a polishing novice) but reviewers say it doesn't work well with some paints. what do you think of it and how about using it on a black Infiniti.

3.I use Klasse AIO and I remember reading somewhere you suggested applying it with a buffer because it had a mild polish, which pad do you suggest.

4.Last one. What's the difference between the Lake country standard foam pads, the CCS pads and the Hydro Tech pads.

thanks

The Optimum Car Wax 128 oz is a great value. It provides protection and a nice shine. If you want something that is more of a cleaner that doesn't provide as much gloss the Chemical Guys Synthetic Quick Detailer 128oz is a great value. It helps you clean and shine the paint in one step but again it's not meant to provide durable protection.

One other option you may want to look at is the Optimum Opti-Seal & Free Yellow Foam Applicator which is a spray on sealant but it lasts about 3 - 5 months for me. I only use about .25 - .5 ounces per coat so it lasts a long time. Best of all you buff it on and you are DONE no removal is needed.

Hope this helps!

I'm thinking I may not have let the paint cool off enough prior to using it. I live in Fort Smith, AR, which is smack in the middle of this "heat dome" and it hasn't been under 100* for the entire month of July . I let the car sit in my garage for a few hours after I got home from work, but when it's that hot outside it only cools off so much unless it's after 11 at night.

Will ONR streak if surface is not cool enough? Also will ONR stip any protection that I previously applied to car?

Thanks!
The ONR does not strip off protection at all. In that kind of heat you may see the water marks from mineral deposits, lime scale, etc. that is naturally found in most hose water. I'm guessing they are water marks instead of the ONR but if you used too much that could have created an issue, especially in the heat. Any product will dry up and streak if you are in enough heat. My best advice is to get a pop up tent to shade your washing area and wash early or as late as possible to avoid extreme heat.

You can apply just about any polish by hand but a buffer will always help you get better results when used properly. If you do it by hand I recommend a DI Accessories Polishing Pal and a Lake Country White Polishing Pad 4". It will help work it in more effectively and maximize your efforts. If you want a less expensive option just use a clean foam applicator, I personally love this one Lake Country Red Foam Applicator Pad.

Polishing silver paint is a huge help to improving the shine, just like any color paint. I like to follow up with the P21S Concours Carnauba Wax which works great on silver.

Good luck!

Since the Z will be on jack stands in my garage for the next four days, is there any problem with just leaving it on until I get everything done? Will there be any better bonding to the paint leaving it on like that?

Sure, it's a racecar, but I like to keep it looking good!

When you apply a sealant like the Blackfire Wet Diamond you want to wait roughly 15 minutes and then buff off the excess polish. After that the product will finishing curing within the next 1 - 24 hours. Usually after an hour the product is pretty close to done, but if you want to wait 24 hours you can be sure. Hope this helps!

My only suggestions is to make sure you apply the Opti-Seal before the Car Wax because the Opti-Seal is actually far more durable. Otherwise I like a lot of the items you selected. Don't forget you can save 10% off with the coupon code 10offg37. Take care!

Thanks for the questions I'm happy to help!

1. Sorry to hear about that but it's pretty common. I think the M205 and a white pad is a perfect starting point to solving the problem. It should remove most of them from your new paint. If not the M105 and an orange pad would be the next step but hopefully you're all set with just the M205.

2. I haven't heard about any issues with it on the G37 but it's a great kit from what I've read and experienced. This is also another possible solution but it's a bit more aggressive than just the M205, it's more similar to doing the M105 and M205. Nothing wrong with that just wanted to note it.

3. For the AIO if you want any correction power to remove surface contaminants, light etchings, etc. a white pad is my choice, if you just want some protection a black pad could be used.

4. I personally prefer the flat pads because of the constant contact it provides with the paint. I don't like how the dimples are continuously releasing extra polish. I prefer to work the polish in a more uniform manner and not have more polish keep dispensing. I also don't like the wasted polish in the pad. I think CCS pads still work it's just not my preference.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Is it possible to remove scratches from the chrome trim around the windows. I'm too afraid to try the chrome polish I use on the exhaust tips.

Can chrome/plastic trim be polished safely?

Thanks for any advice.

Generally speaking that chrome looking trim is actually plastic with a very thin coating on it. I generally don't recommend using a polish with abrasives on it, because the protective coating and chrome coating is very thin. You can use a good chemical polish on it like the Klasse All In One (AIO), which will help clean and protect the surface, but it won't buff out scratches. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Greg,

I have the Megs 105/205 combo with the clay bar and blackfire sealant. I have a 1997 Acura Cl that is black that needs some work on the paint finish. Do you think between the clay bar the megs and the sealant that I will get good results? I also have the porter cable buffer as well. Sorry I don't have any pics, but it is a 14 year old paint finish and black at that.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

It should be an ideal combination to restore the paint so it has a deep and glossy finish. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Greg, I got some meguire's 103 cleaner. Is this stuff corrosive? I had a spray bottle from another company and put the cleaner in it and it ate thru the bottom of the spray bottle. It was not diluted.

Thanks

Matt,

It's a very strong cleaner that should be diluted roughly 10:1 depending on what you are using it for. I've put it in a variety of spray bottles and I've never heard of it eating through a bottle. It's certainly may break down a very weak or defective plastic bottle, especially at full strength. Let me know if you have any other questions.
