The pad on the 7424 is made to take off and never use again.

I use otc clay and it works fine. I think the last one I got was from a random auto parts store, and it was the Meguiars kit.

What wash media are you using? Good products are all wasted if you're using a crappy old sponge. You're gonna need lots more towels too. At least two drying towels, and a few more great white's, then a package of crappy towels from target or something for inside, wheels, engine bay, etc.

TheIvoryG offered some great advice. The white pad / backing plate combo is a proprietary pads that Porter Cable makes, it's pretty much pointless. If you wanted to use it to polish exhaust tips or something, that's about all it's good for, I wouldn't recommend it on your paint. We used to actually ship the buffers out without the pad so our customers didn't use them but it became too much work to take them out of every PC...

Looks like you have a solid start of products for your exterior. If you're using 4" pads, you may want to have more than a couple of each because the tend to clog up rather quickly. I'd typically use 4 - 5 pads for each coat of polish when using 4" pads. The polishes you picked up are rather mild, so if the imperfections aren't too deep they should do the job. If you have some deeper imperfections, don't be disappointed that they aren't removed with that combo you plan on using.

As TIG mentioned, you want to make sure you have a few buckets, Grit Guards, waffle weave drying towels, and any other quality wash tools to make sure you don't add more swirls and imperfections in the future.

If you're planning on ordering, I'd suggest our gentle fine grade clay. You can dilute your ONR with water to use as a great clay bar lubricant. Otherwise, you can pick up some clay locally, but you usually end up spending a lot more per gram.

For interior products, I'll typically use Leatherique Prestine Clean as a 1 step leather cleaner and conditioner every few months. Maintain the leather, vinyl, plastic and rubber with either 303 Aerospace Protectant or Optimum Protectant Plus. For cleaning carpets or stains in general, wheel wells, engine bay, and other grimy areas, I use Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner.

If you wanted to replace the quick detailer and spray on wax (which aren't bad), I'd suggest trying Optimum Instant Detailer and Optimum Car Wax. Bang for the buck those two are some of the best out there, especially if you get the concentrated version of OID.

Hope this helps, if you have other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Let us know how everything turns out for you when you get a chance to use everything.

Thanks again for the kind words, we appreciate your support

Dear Detailed Image,

I don't have much time for detailing. I like the idea of not using a hose. I have a black coupe. I'd like to have a glossy look or shine. Can you give me a list of items to use and the order as I've had the car since Xmas and I have never washed or detailed myself. My last car ran through the auto car wash twice a year in a bummer. D

Hi George(DI),

i recently used up the last of my Klasse AIO and NXT 2.0 Tech wax. i'm looking to replenish my supplies, but i am wondering if you have any suggestions on new products.

i have loved the AIO product for ~2years now, great stuff and it can be applied to the whole car - glass, plastic, metal, etc. Unless theer is another comparable product at a reasonable price i'll probably just stick with that.

overtop of the AIO i have been applying the NXT every ~3 months. this has been a good, easy-to-use product so far. i was considering the Chemical Guys XXX wax and the 1Z einszett Glanz wax. they both seem like good affordable options. any comment here?

my G is the Blue Slate and i apply by hand pads and M/F buffing towels...no machines for me.

Thx in advance!

We have several great kits that help you wash without the need for a hose: DI Packages Basic Hose Free Wash Package with ONR
DI Packages Complete Hose Free Wash Package with ONR

After washing I'd suggest protecting it with a sealant every 3 - 6 months. The Blackfire Wet Diamond with Polycharger is probably my favorite sealant that provides very durable protection and a great shine on black paint. Just apply it with a foam applicator and wipe away the excess product 15 minutes later with a clean microfiber towel (DI Microfiber All Purpose Towel). It applies and removes very easy so you get a great shine very quickly. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Great set of questions. The Klasse All In One (AIO) is an awesome product that is tough to beat. The Optimum (OPT) Poli-Seal is probably the only other option I can suggest that is very similar. It's an AIO so it cleans and protects in one step. I think it has slightly more correcting power to remove imperfections but it's not quite as durable as the Klasse AIO. However this product is only $14.39 ($.45 per oz) after using our 10offG37 discount code for 10% off and it's a 32oz bottle. The Klasse AIO is $25.19 and is about $1.50 per ounce so the Optimum Poli-Seal is a much better value.

After that step I'd highly recommend a pure carnauba wax like the Chemical Guys XXX Hard Core Paste Wax or Poorboy's World Natty's Blue Paste Wax. I'd probably suggest the Natty's Blue though because it's specifically designed to make darker colors really pop and have that extra glossy appearance.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi George,

Just need some advice on how i should buffer using my PC. I have a OB, and i have some scratches that i can't seem to get them off my car. I use M102/M105 and the scratches are still there... i tried using Meguiars scracthX and other stuff, but nothing works.. So do i need something stronger than the PC or what am i doing wrong that these scratches remains there?
FYI, one of the scratch is made my me, when i accidentally smack my watch on the car when i pass it in a hurry...

If the scratch is something you can feel with your finger it's possible it won't buff out. If this is the case you'll need some wet sanding and possibly some touch up work done if you want it gone. If you can not feel it with your finger he is the process I'd suggest. Go up to max speed and use medium pressure if you feel comfortable. Move the buffer slow and steady with the M105 and your most aggressive pad. If that doesn't work consider getting a smaller pad 4" if you don't already and trying the Surbuf pads which are very aggressive with the M105. Then go back to your normal pad with the M105 and finally the M205. If this does not work you are back to needing some wet sanding and possible touch up work.

Also no watches, jewelry, phones, zippers or buttons should be on you when detailing so you don't scratch the paint!

Let us know what you try and how it works out for you. Good luck!
