Hmm... I'm thinking the AT in gear but at a dead stop is a different experience than my 6MT at a dead stop with the clutch in. So apples to apples, you're talking about when the car is in PARK or NEUTRAL, right?
After the tune my idle is steady @ about 600 RPM. The vibration and the engine "searching for the right idle speed" only happened while in drive @ a dead stop. I actually started slipping it into N at lights because the vibration and rattle got so annoying to me. In N the vibration and the idle evened out. I believe that the ECU was trying to adjust the A:F ratio and timing and that was the source of my woes. It's gone now however, so I am happier.

Must have driven 150 miles today, carting the kids all over town and back over and over, plus errands. Highway, city, suburbs... lots of different driving. Which is atypical for me these last few years. Seems I just don't drive around as much as I used to.

Anyway, follow-up on the cats. They are without a doubt a power-mod. There's no denying it, not that I did in my first evaluation. Just saying... wow.

As for exhaust noise, here's the best way I can describe things. It's like my intake noise was taken up a notch, if that makes any sense. It's not a deeper sound, just louder, and only a little bit so. Except for WOT at the high revs. In those situations there's a freaking racket going on. Hella loud. But still an "intake" or engine noise, not an exhaust noise... even though the only change here was the cats.

Anyway, round two and I still say the money was well spent, because the added grunt is enough to be appreciated and respected. And the car is louder, just not the kind of noise I was hoping for.

Sorry to hear you're not getting the added exhaust tone you were hoping for. Sounds like the added grunt is making up for it though?

I think you're right in that the vibration is worse in the AT. I noted it but it usually didn't bother me.

Excellent review on the RHFC's! I've always enjoyed your thorough reviews. Great pics of the RHFC's too. This mod is next on my list and your pics and review helped cement that. I just pulled the trigger on the FI CBE with upgraded X-pipe (non-resonated).

I know you're looking for more sound and I was wondering what your impressions of this setup are..

This is Lance's 370 (1cleanG) and will be the same setup I end up with on my sedan.

Your car is looking fantastic!

Those are very kind words. Thank you, Sir.

I've heard the FI catback with FI RHFC on Choman's car last december, both inside and out, drivers seat and passenger. I have only good things to say about it. Can't go wrong with Fast Intentions.

That said, I'm still leaning towards ARK, if only because of the online video clips and its unique Helmholtz resonator design. I'm hoping to hear a wide range of exhausts at next month's meet-up.

You're welcome, Sir.

I am pretty excited to have the setup installed as my exhaust decision has been undecided for 4 years now as there are quite a few options. On the cats, I'm definitely leaning toward a professional install, based on your observations.

I'm going to check out the ARK / FI RHFC sound on youtube. I've looked at them for a long time and the quality is top notch and the Helmholtz design is definitely cool.

Subbed to your build thread to follow updates. If I was in the northeast, I'd definitely come out for the meet!

What isn't cool, (and entirely IMO), are the humongous round tips that ARK ships their exhausts with. Don't like them at all. For that matter, I don't like the tips on just about every aftermarket exhaust for our cars... except Stillen. The Stillen setup is beautiful to look at.

So... that means aftermarket tips. Again. I created this thread a couple of years ago on topic to tips:

Oooh...yeah. I definitely concur. Not feeling the tips on the ARK exhaust. The Stillen setup is nice. I definitely prefer the angled 30 degree cut and think it just flows better with our cars. Looks like they (ARK) have a 25% off MSRP tax day sale.

In my years of research on exhaust system setups, I've found that it's quite synonymous with the pursuit of getting that "perfect" guitar tone. It's always subjective (as it should be) and there are so many subtle nuances to consider, but as Newt mentioned in your other thread, it's the obsession to the subtlest of details that separates the nice cars from the VERY nice cars and elevates G (and any car for that matter) enthusiasm to a finely crafted art form.

On the flip side of the agonizing amount of research we all do for upgrades to our cars, I think that makes the final decision that much more satisfying and rewarding.

Man, that sounds NICE!

Your exhaust sound elicited visions of a baby VR38DETT for me- especially on the downshifts and when you got into the skinny pedal. Any vids from outside doing a start and rev?

Freakinay. You guys are seriously to blame for me parting with a good chunk of cash for my FI CBE and RHFC's that I wasn't really planning on right now were it not for the fact that I've been on the forum more lately. Lol.

Only worry is that with any exhaust we get that "drone" zone. All maxima exhausts have it, is the g37 the same?
