Help im unstable in high speeds.
im unstable in high speeds.
lowered on TANABEs coils, no finger gap in the front, maybe 1 and a half in the back. I noticed that on high speeds, my car feels very unstable. It can't maintain a straight line, and it seems that it follows the grooves of the road, I mean if there are line patterns in the freeway , it will wander from side to side.another thing is that, small bumps and irregularities in the road makes my steering wheel move a lot (I think its called BUMPSTEER). I got it aligned in firestone twice, but they never fixed it. Also, I noticed that when Im driving in a straight line, my steering wheel is a little bit off to the right. any suggestions?
1-- I would go to a different place to get it alligned. I refuse to go to firestone for anything at all, but even if they are trustworthy and have done it twice and its STILL messing up, just get another opinion
2-- any car will follow the grooves of the road to a certain extent...if its outrageous i would say its due to the alignment being off (same for the steering wheel- go somewhere else)
GL getting it fixed!

how long has it been doing this...was it fine for a while and then just started all of a sudden? or has it always felt like this since you've had it lowered? and I'm assuming you have wider tires than stock which will make it follow the ruts in the road even worse...
Its without a doubt an alignment issue. When I had my G lowered on springs, I put off on the alignment for a good 2 months. The ride quality simply got horrendous and my car felt like I was on rollerblades on ice. I got it aligned at a reputable shop and holy **** it felt like I was in a totally different car. It handled beautifully and the ride was much smoother. Trust me, find a place that specializes with modified/lowered vehicles and you will drive out with a new car.
I have the tanabe's also. I have at it aligned at Firestone too. My car does not feel unstable but my steering wheel is tilted off to the right and I have gone 4 times to adjust it and it is still off to the right.

yup i have wider tires, have 20 inches with 275 in the back, forgot what i was in the front. when I was dropped with the TEINS , I felt this way already , but worse with the TANABEs. I think its because Im lower now with the TAnaBEs in the front. And BTW, everytime I went to firestone, not a fail -- I have an issue with them. Will try a specialist who can allign lowered cars, maybe raise it up a lil bit as well in the front because now Im noticing more wear on the tires in the front.
Real advice:
You need an alignment. Dial in a tiny bit of toe-in on the rear tires. You'll want maybe 1/16 total (1/32 each rear tire). This will do WONDERS for your high-speed stability, at the cost of slightly more tire wear.
Can you describe your instability? Does it feel like the front or rear is out of control?

its frustrating ha? especially when entering the freeway and catching up on speed and changing gears ( I drive a MT). It doesnt feel good that you have to keep your eyes and hands on the steering wheel just to make sure its a lil titled to the right just to go straight!

It is really annoying. Everyone keeps saying it's straight and it's not. I drive a 6mt too.
