Foglight Issue

Whats up everyone, am I the only person that thinks that even after updating the foglights to HID's the output is still lacking. Has anyone modded them suchs as retrofitting a projector in the foglights? I have 11 G37 Sedan (non sport) I asked oneighty is they have done this and they mentioned that they "haven't and don't plan to because they are small and do not open up like headlights."

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for increasing the output? Or has anyone attempted a projector mod on the fogs? I'd be curious to find out.

I've never seen one. I don't have problems with the output. HID foglights aren't really intended to increase the amount of usable illumination anyways. It's an aesthetic change, and the brighter they are, the more they actually blind other drivers (and yourself).

I don't see why you couldn't set up your fogs to be projectors, but like 180 said. There's not a ton of diameter in the fog light to get a really good reflector going. Also, there's not much in the way of a support structure to keep your fog light projectors steady and aimed. It would be hard to immobilize your fog lights so much that you could mount a whole projector assembly. That's why your headlights are rigid.

The fog light assembly area is also rather exposed and would probably not like the increased moisture and debris that accumulates in the lower section of your bumper. It would also make taking your bumper off a bigger PITA that it already is.

All in all, I think it's possible, but very difficult.

You got me. Once I do some other things to my car first, I will be retrofitting projectors into the fogs

I had the retrofit Idea for the fogs as well a while back, only problem is going to be finding a sealed projector unit, and space behind the fog area is limited on the passenger side.

Would love to see something like these.

You could buy these for $70 and then mod the projector, etc.

I have done that on my previous car Volvo S60 and I gotta tell You the results were worse than an actual 5000k HID with a stock foglight reflector... the light beam was weakened I guess due to the thick glass of the fog light... also I can't complain about my 5000k HID fogs on my current car that I got from TheRetrofitSource... have you thought that wherever you bought your HID kit from might be of a lesser quality?

YUP, 6000K DDM fog kit here, going strong for 4+ years and no complaints. Way more light and brightness and better color than the stock halogens. What more are you looking for? They aren't spotlights or search lights...

Yea that is the feedback I am receiving from everyone on and off the forum. It will stay the way it is until someone comes up with it.

I agree, which is why I consulted with Oneighty them being the local experts on this type of job. If I had the time and the spare set of fogs, I would take a shot at the project, but until then it will stay the way it is.

Interesting, but results will vary because every manufacturers build design material are always different so not only the glass, but the fog light design itself could have affected it. I currently have 6K HIDs from Diode Dynamics. I've tried using the ones from TheRetrofitSource and found DD to be better quality. But thanks or the info.

I never mentioned that it wasnt better, I have the same kit from Diode Dynamics and its much better than stock. But they do not illuminate the roads the way my previous cars have on the same kit from DD. If I wanted spotlights or searchlights I would have them, but obviously I'm just looking for better visibility from them.
