Ipod doesn't charge

I have an '09 G37X with premium sound system that interfaces with an Ipod through a cable in the storage compartment between the seats. My Ipod died while driving due to the fact that when hooked to the cable, it doesn't charge while in the car. Any ideas?

Get a sperate car charging kit.

As soon as you plug in the iPod a notice pops up on the iPod that says "This device does not support charging or something like that."

In other words the iPod not charging is normal.
