Budget Wheel & Tire Upgrade Finally Done!

So I've had my 2011 Journey Sedan for almost two years now. But I've never been fond of the OEM 17" wheels. Always had dreams of 19 or 20 inch wheels.

But reality set in and, for various reasons, did not want to lower my car. This forced me to have to go with nothing larger than an 18" wheel.

So I finally got 18x8 Niche Essen M146 wheels. Running a square setup with 225/50/18 all around.
(My apologies for the quality of the photo.)

That's a nice clean wheel choice, looks almost looks OEM, goes well with the blue slate.

I'd call that an improvement, for sure. Hard to tell in this pic, but the new offset looks less tucked than the OEM 17's, but not so aggresive to need a drop.

Since you spent much less than more expensive rims and all the costs that can creep with a drop, did you apply those savings towards 3-season tires?

Yes, the new wheels sit about 11mm (not quite 1/2") further out. I wanted to get as close to the stock offset as possible so as not to look too odd without lowering.

I went with Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires because of a combination of good reviews and lower cost.
I guess they're more of a summer time, but hey, I live in sunny California!

I think the 17" factory wheels run a 45mm offset, and suspect you new wheels are 40mm, so they are about 5mm out.

Anyways, good choice on the wheels, they match the car well.

Yes, new wheels have a 40mm offset, but are also 1/2" wider than OEM 17" wheels.

Those S0-4 Tires are a huge improvement over the stock 17" all seasons, that alone should keep a big grin on your face.
