Compatibility: Swapping Non-4WAS Steering Rack into a 4WAS G37 Coupe?
Compatibility: Swapping Non-4WAS Steering Rack into a 4WAS G37 Coupe?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently drifting a G37 Coupe equipped with 4WAS. I already have the 4WAS fuse pulled/cut to bypass the system for drifting.
Recently, my steering rack started leaking oil and needs to be replaced. When looking for a remanufactured rack, I noticed that only the Non-4WAS versions are available in stock. Since my 4WAS is already disabled, I am considering swapping in the Non-4WAS rack, but I want to make sure it will bolt up and function without mechanical issues.
For reference, the part numbers I found are:
Has anyone successfully done this swap or know if it's a direct bolt-on mechanically? Any advice on steering center issues or potential pitfalls would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Have you read through this thread that forum member @BULL put together? BULL also has/ had a 4WAS car so if the answer you are looking for isn't in that thread perhaps you can shoot him a PM. I know he is busy with IRL stuff but he does his best to reply forthwith.
That said, the way I understand the 4WAS system, the front rack should have no direct effect on the rear assembly. The steering angle sensor (SAS) is part of the steering column so the rear gets all the information it needs from there, not the front rack. BULL will correct me if I am wrong...
Good luck.
