Thumbs up cheapest way to gain hp/tq

Hi I have a 2008 g37 sedan stock. I make decent money but I am not willing to spend 6000 dollars on a twin turbo kit. What are some things I can do to gain hp/ tq. Also do you know some places I can get these items. I am not scared to spend money on my car just not 6000.

You won't make decent power without spending a lot of money. That's a fact tested and proven by many on this board including myself. You need boost or boy racer Nitrous Kits

Or sell the G and get something with an OEM turbo.

With bolt on mods you will be lucky to gain 5-10 hp. It takes a lot to gain 100hp.

Not even headers with full exhaust cold air intake and a tune with a couple extra mods

All the mentioned above mods will barely yield 30hp and mostly at very high rpms only. The car will also feel a lot sluggish at low rev's because of the lost torque. Then you'll realize you just wasted $5k in parts and labor.

You really lose low end acceleration with bolt-ons?

That's depressing. I've heard of losing a tiny bit of low end from installing certain intakes etc.

But headers and full exhaust cause slower acceleration from 0-60?

About how much Horsepower loss or sluggish will a stock G37S loose after bolting on a Fast intentions exhaust? Do I really need a up rev tune to properly gain 10-15 horsepower from this exhaust? Thanks!

I've got the full Fast Intentions exhaust and I have not noticed any drop in torque, but I HAVE noticed a gain in horsepower. I've got the dyno sheet to prove it.

Baseline with just the breather mods, I saw max torque of 231, and a max hp of 280. The uprev tune boosted that number 10hp and 7ft/lb. Admittedly, the tuner told me he thinks the intakes I had on there at the time were not seeing the full benefit of the tune, since they were short ram intakes. IMO, I think yes, you do loose torque from the breather mods, but I think the tune will more than offset the loss.

Look, buddy, Robert K will be on here any minute now to tell you the golden rules. He's right, the first rule is 1. There is Always someone faster. Don't get too hung up on horsepower, just enjoy the car, mod for the enjoyment of modding, and don't forget that no matter what you do, a 25,000 dollar bone stock mustang can smoke you on the drag strip.

You don't need to spend all that money if all you want is horsepower gain. Just paint your calipers red. Paint your windscreen red. Paint everything red; +9000 hp/tq.

Here's the bottom line, TL;DR.

If horsepower is that important to you, spend a lot of money and get a turbocharger, or supercharger. There is no magic formula for a faster car. There is no "budget" method. There is no "lifehack". The formula for a faster car = More Air + More fuel. That means 10,000 dollars to start for a FI kit, and a tune on top of it. If you're not prepared to go that route, then save your money and do what makes you happy. Splitting hairs over and over again (USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION) will just clutter the forum and give you a headache.

Cheers,
Anthony

Are people tracking thier car frequently? If they're not, I just don't get the point of trying to mod their car up to the point of spending thousands of dollars to try and gain 50-100HP. Is it simple bragging rights? I just can't see what advantage there is to wasting money that gives you really nothing in real world driving with a car that already has 330HP. The G37 seems plenty fast to me going on that on ramp which is really the only time I can really stretch it out. And with torque being the same, i don't think I would even notice a 50HP bump which gives me a barely .3 second increase in acceleration.

Great getting my traditional fast intentions with nex x pipe with 18" resonators. Thats all I have and my air filters are the HKS hybrid filter. So i dont need to a tune, that's great. After reading and reading, I figure i might loose like 5-10 horsepower, but it seems like im not. The manufacturer has 18 hp gains, i wonder if that was with up rev tuning, or just simply bolt on? Cant wait to hear my exhaust.

Strip the interior, lose the spare, and there you go! And that can be done for free.
