Get a good set of tires, an oil cooler and learn how to drive the car at an autocross event. Experience will make you faster than hp at this point. You already own a fast car. And I'm not trying to make any assumptions about your driving skill every car handles differently.

Since this thread is still open I'd like to ask a few serious questions.

Is the G37 that slow of a car stock? They seem to have good numbers but I do understand they are heavy. Intake and exhaust won't give you a noticeable increase in power? I'm not trying to beat 5.0 Mustangs but it would be nice to keep up with a minivan.

I had an Acura TL Type-S a couple years ago. I replaced the front part of the exhaust (both precats, primary cat, mid muffler) with a catless system and kept the stock 2 mufflers. There was a nice increase in torque. No dyno numbers to prove anything but very noticeable.

So the G doesn't respond well to simple bolt ons?

It's not a matter of "responding well". I think the consensus is that Nissan/Renaut engineers pretty well maxed out the performance of this engine from the factory. There are tips and tweaks you can do to wrong a few more horsepower out of the power plant, but the ceiling is pretty hard. After all, nothing you bolt on will increase the density of the air you pull in.

Superchargers and Turbochargers cheat physics and give the most significant boost. The g37 is by no means a slow car in it's stock form. However, it was initially designed to take a stab at dethroning the BMW 3 series in that class. It's apples and oranges really.

The answer everyone keeps coming back to is: There is no "cheap" way to increase anything in this car.

While opinions like this are subjective and entirely relative, it's still safe to answer, "No, not at all." The G is plenty quick and fun to drive. It just is. However, it might not *seem* fast, because of the ride.

Not any more or less heavy than a comparable sedan manufactured in the last 10 years.

Long-tube CAI and HFC's should both be noticeable, by themselves or together.

Good for you. Fine car. But the RWD-G Sedan with the Sport Package is better, IMO.

I agree with the majority of the posts here. There is no cheap way of making more power since everything is pretty much optimized from the factory. Considering the fact that good fuel-economy is back on the radar for auto manufactures and also a selling point, I'm sure most auto-makers have tried to optimize the intake and exhaust systems without increasing cost too much.

Also, gaining more horsepower isnt really going to help you very much. Its the torque that wins races. Unfortunately our VQs are on the low end of the toque spectrum of this class. The reason why a BMW 335i is faster than a G37 despite having 30 less HP is because the 335i makes 30 more lbft of toque AND has that max torque available from 1300 RPM to 5000 RPM. This is why turbos kick so much ***!

Anyways, the cheapest way to make big power (although not necessarily cheap) is a nitrous kit with supporting mods and tune. You will most likely need a new fuel pump and fuel injectors to make some nice gains. The drawbacks are limited number of runs before you need to refill the bottle and the bottle will occupy a some portion of our already small trunk. Installation can be done in one afternoon if you are mechanically adept though.

The second cheapest way of making big power is either a twin turbo or supercharger kit ( I prefer turbos). Of course something like a GTM TT turn key system will cost around $10k - $12k when all is said and done.

Weight reductions will always help of course, however carbon-fiber parts can get pretty expensive and you might quickly ascend to the nitrous or TT/SC price range. If you find yourself stripping out the interior of your G in the name of performance, then why did you bother starting out with a nice luxury car?

If you are not willing to spend the money on N2O or FI, then your best bet on a budget will be removing the spare tire, driving on an almost empty tank of gas, and drag radials

There is no cheap way to get more hp out of a contemporary performance car. They all come from the factory with high performance parts installed. The G37 has tube headers from the factory as well as dual throttle bodies for better breathing. I have driven a current model 5 liter mustang with an automatic and it isn't noticeably quicker than my g37 auto coupe. I would not consider my car slow, but it's no sports car. People need to be realistic about what the car is. It isn't a full on sports car, it is a luxury sport coupe that's why it isn't light. It performs very well for what it is, but if you're looking for a sports car you should probably start with one.
Sports Car and Luxury Sports coupe. See the difference? Stock vs stock my wifes 370 will SMOKE my G37, it is faster and handles like a go-kart.

Thank you. And yes you're right it is pretty cool, it was a real eye opener to be able to drive them back to back. I have to say I have a pretty amazing wife also, that's her bike you see in the garage in the photo of my car. I know alot of guys who had to get rid of their bikes because their wife resented them. She went out and bought her own so she could ride with me.

Interesting. I thought both vehicles were built on the same platform. Too bad for me the I think the 370z is a horrible looking car.

The Z is a much smaller car than the G37, the wheelbase is a foot shorter and I believe the overall length is something like 17 inches shorter. The Z is a true sports car, the G37 is not. Sexy as hell yes, reasonably fast, and decent handling yes, cheap or even reasonable to mod HELL NO. My car is plenty fast for me, I might put an exhaust on it just to make it sound better. If I want to go fast I bust this out and go play on the racetrack.
