Low oil pressure after new gasket HELP!
#2
I think everything is fine
The factory spec is more than 14 psi at idle, with the oil temp at 80C / 176F. You will have an oil pressure that is a little lower if the oil temp is higher.
Don't sweat it... Most gauges have an accuracy between 2-5 psi, so between the hotter engine oil and gauge accuracy, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I think you spent more to have your own gasket installed than you would have for them to replace the entire rear timing cover
Silly question: what was your indication that the original gasket had failed?

Thank you for the advice and support.
How I found out my gasket failed? Well after spending months working on the car (changed clutch myself!!), one of the things I installed was an oil gauge. When I fired the car up and let it run with the oil gauge, I *literally* did a backflip when I saw the psi. It was idling at 6-7. Car ran perfectly fine, 0 indication anything was amiss and no cel or stored codes. After a series of anger-induced backflips, I finally decided to get it fixed.
The dealer confirmed the low psi. He found cute little pieces of gasket in my oil pan. When he removed the timing cover, he found it broken in 3 different spots, all near the screws.
After getting the car back, it drove no different from what I could tell. But that was my second time driving it so idk.
But yeah I guess I'm worrying for nothing. The oil gauge seems to be idling at 12psi on very hot days after an hour or two of driving. At 2000 rpm it's right around 40psi hot. I'm sure my gauge is just a little off, after all it was a couple psi off when my dealer did the oil test. Thank you so much for the advice guys.
