my first oil change when
my first oil change when
Hi guys,
I have 2009 Infiniti G37 sedan that I got on January. It's been 3 months and I've put only 1300 miles till now. As per manual my first oil change should be at 3750 miles, right? But I just wanted to know does number of months also matter?
Should I just wait till 3750 or get an oil change before that - say 1400 miles?
Also, which place do you recommend to get oil change - dealer, walmart/pepboy/jiffy or any other place? And what kind of oil?
I'd appreciate your help and suggestion.
Thanking you,
bik

If you search around the forum you will find a large number of opinions about both when you should change your oil and what you should put in the car.
The most important considertation for your oil is this from the manual
ENGINE OIL RECOMMENDATION:
● Engine oil with API Certification Mark
● Viscosity SAE 5W-30
This thread is all about the oils people like and don't like, 15 pages worth.
As for where, take it some place you trust. I used a local Nissan Dealer for a couple of mine. They did a good job and were reasonably priced. I've heard too many bad things about Wal-Mart and quick change oil shops to go to one myself.

I believe the recommended interval for oil change is 3750 miles OR 3 months, whichever comes first.
I would not take it to Walmart, Jiffy Lube....etc. Either DIY or take it to a shop that you can trust or knows that does quality work. Dealers, if you have to, but be prepared to pay more.
For choice of oil, there's a ton of discussion on the thread about the preferred oil, everyone is different. You might have to do a search and read through them.

For what kind of oil, read through all the opinions. IMO it's either Mobil1 or Penzoil Ultra.
For when, 3750 is a good time for the first one.
For where, DO NOT go to WalMart or JiffyLube. I'd completely agree with Danny and say either DIY or go somewhere that actually knows what they're doing.
I know multiple WalMarts that employ people who aren't ASE certified when they're supposed to be, etc.

Personally I never go by the month recommendation. Mileage and engine running time is more important.
Especially when it's also recommended 6 months/7,500 miles for "normal driving". It seems strange to thing that the different types of driving would also have some kind of effect on the time limit in months before your oil needs changing. The type of driving would more likely affect your oil's lifetime in miles, not months. So if the oil can last 6 months for highway drivers, it can last 6 months for you as well.
If I only had driven 1400 miles after 3 months, there's no way I'd change the oil.

I personally would never change my oil after 3 months. I go by mileage or the longest time interval allowed by warranty, which would be 6 months in this case. Of course I never have to worry about it as much as I drive.
