I'm excited for you, man. After all these years, you're going to have so much fun with this new exhaust.
I think this is one of those cars you need to do an exhaust early because it transforms the driving experience.

The symphony shall commence tomorrow, around lunchtime

The first thing i changed when i got my g37 was the aftermarket mufflers and went back to stock muflers.

Aftermarket was just too obnoxious and loud for my taste. Stock sounds decent and doesnt draw too much attention.

I found the Revel / Tanabe Axle back is probably the most tame muffler for the G sedan. It does not drone or have rasp and sounds very good and is not obnoxiously loud.

Glad you found your peace & quiet. However, you just dismissed all aftermarket exhausts as if they were all the same.

They aren't.

I didnt have a particular brand, it was something the previous owner had custom made but it gave me headaches and i could never peacefully leave the neighbourhood

I'm sure that are great aftermarket ones that do offer some good sound and arent too loud but currently i am happy and need to focus money on more important things such as gaskets, valve covers, bbk and new wheels
At some point i will add other mufflers as current ones are a bit rusty.

These MD pipes are something else!! But I’ll need to go shopping for oval tips (round ones stand out too much for me)

The smiles per gallon were at an all time high on my drive home from the shop

Initial take, like everyone said, the exhaust upgrade reinvents the car. Ear to ear grin, the whole way home. Felt like Max Verstappen when I opened it up. Only other “but” is it’s prob for the best that I don’t drive daily (or even weekly) anymore.

Next roadtrip up 95 is going to be quite the ride

All this talk about exhaust is making me very tempted to pull the trigger on a cat-back as well. I usually squirrel away a few bucks here and there for car mods for myself and have enough to get a pretty decent CBE but my recent trip to Florida and Disney was quite expensive and a bathroom reno is eating up extra funds as well. The other thing I have been debating is that the car is more than 10 years old now and upgrading the exhaust at this point seems somewhat futile. Should I just pull the trigger and enjoy it while I lasts, like our friend here, or save the money for a replacement vehicle in a few years 🤔

I wouldn’t have upgraded my exhaust without feeling like I’d be driving the G for another 5+ years. Honestly, at this point, I’ll probably own it forever (maybe pass it on to a family member or keep it in someone’s garage if I do eventually get an M3 or something). I’ll say this, I’ve been in the seat for a grand total of 25 min after the install, and feel it was worth every. single. penny

@backman_66 I’ve not once posted a video before (like ever, to the Internet), but I’ll try to figure it out. Gotta pay it forward

Oh you definitely have to create videos and pics and discuss your new exhaust. If we're going to experience this vicariously, you've got to bring us in.

And you're right about the tips, they're a little much. Not so much as to be ewww, but enough to lay the groundwork for a subtle mod. Take your time researching tips, it's a huge market.

Of course, least I could do after scouring the internet for sound clips. I’ll try to record a few while I have the car for the weekend, and get something up soon

Deep dive into muffler tips shall begin soon. Thinking the 3” inlet might reduce my options, but I’d like an oval just like the OEM tips, just a little bigger. Where there’s a will, there’s a way…

Rolled edge vs straight edge. Single wall, double wall, resonated. Round vs oval. Slash cut, flat cut. Clamp on, welded on. Dual tip, quad tip. Polished SS, powder coated, burnt Ti. 3 in, 3.5", 4", etc.

Options.

Pretty busy weekend for me, tried on the new eBay mesh grill, and it fits shockingly great! (dare I say OEM fitment, fits flush with no noticeable gaps…albeit easier to hide those in black)

Also tried two different emblems, the QX56 rear badge (which doesn’t have a background/pedestal) and a QX50 front badge, which looked hilarious (like a big, bulbous nose or something). So I’ll go with the QX56 badge and try to send the QX50 one back.

Annnnnd final step will be to Plastidip the mesh part in matte black, to match the lower mesh grill (research shows PD has held up pretty well for this application)

QX56 badge looks much better 👌 😎
