Windshield/Dash seal creaking/popping while driving
Windshield/Dash seal creaking/popping while driving
I've read a thread or two about this issue. I have a 2012 X, and several months after purchasing the area where the dashboard meets the windshield there is some creaking/popping coming while driving and cornering.
I've read a DIY fix thread, where you remove the cowling from under the hood and apply some felt tape which is supposed to eliminate it. I ran this by my dealer in a candid conversation I was having with my service adviser and he too had heard and had a few customers go ahead with the "fix".
He stated normally it returns during the cold months and seems to go away a bit when it warms up. I'm wondering, does anyone else have this issue and fixed it successfully, long term?
Also, FWIW, I may have found a band-aid solution for now, shoving a lacrosse ball between the dash and the windshield in the passenger's corner which has removed it about 80%, but still offers a louder pop/creak when I'm cornering occasionally. Definitely can live with that, but I also want a rock solid alternative available if it worsens, or I feel like taking care of it.
Thanks

Some have added a "p" rubber strip under the cowl:

Some have used silicon lube:

The above thread is full of good ideas to solve the issue.
