And yes, Audi is the influence on the "S" badge, still might give it a shot, but agree the "S" by itself might look off, swoopy lame may very well be accurate lol

 

Having the perimeter painted to match, I swear that almost looks like it could be OEM... although I suspect any OEM-ish impression would fade on close inspection of the honeycomb mesh. Still, looks pretty cool to me.

But there's something not-quite-right with the Fuji. Like it's not solid. It's not the size, because I like the size; that looks good. I wonder... what if there were something *behind* the mesh, behind the Fuji? Know what I mean?

Just to get a feel for the idea, try taping the backside of the mesh, just behind the Fuji, with black electrical tape.

 

Rochester has a good plan, the logo looks good but the mesh behind the logo deters from the look. If you compare this w/ your previous mock up w/ your old logo or VTs logo on his mesh grill I think you'll like the mesh covered up better behind the logo.

 

Yea you guys are right on the money, put much thought on that, a 100% OEM look would need some sort of base/pedestal for the emblem

I was going to go the VT route but the sides would have some gaps in it, not a big deal, looks great but might draw (my) attention too much


I will likely revisit this soon to see if I can come up with a quick fix, thanks for the suggestion

The issue that you pointed out in this picture is exactly why I removed that badge and cutt the base/pedestal off. Then I had to get a new sheet of honeycomb and cut out a new grill. I slapped that now flat logo right on top of the honey comb.
The reason your logo feels a bit out of place is cause its Chrome against the black/greyish mesh. This bugged me too and so I painted the logo black and baaamm!! It looks more in place.


If you want to keep your logo Chrome, There is a very simple way to fix this!

Take the logo off, find a piece of plastic sheet or metal. Lay the logo onto it and trace it. Cut out the trace, if the material you will use is not black, Simply paint it black with what ever paint you got. Hot glue or use double tape to attach the logo to this traced out background you made. Does that make sense??

Re install on the grill and it should look much better and In place.

Here is a more recent pic of my sedan. I Painted my grile and logo gloss black, the flat black looked a bit cheep to the eye.

You guys have an idea where to look for a solid plastic to use as the base for the emblem? It seems so simple yet can't think of what to use, also would need something that's pretty simple to cut cleanly, if that makes sense

Any tips much appreciated otherwise I'm sure I'll bump into something that would work eventually..

so it looks so out of place because the mesh it tucked behind the grill instead of flush like factory. Is there a way to make it flush? I'm probably going to get a spare grill to play with as I'm after the RS(think 2003 RS6) look but in a tasteful way.

Just walk through Home Depot, something like vinyl garden edging wood work but just a walk around there for about 1/2 an hour and you'd find something even smaller and more suitable I'm certain

 

The mesh can be made flush, but even the 2003 RS6 grille, which is what inspired me to do this mod, has the mesh tucked to seperate the grille aluminum trim and the mesh it self.

The depth of the mesh all depands on how much of the front chrome blade you cut off.
The problem with the 2007-2009 G sedan grille, is that the side grille trim is very thin and you cannot really hide the junction point of the mesh and the trim. make sense? The 2010+ would look so much better with the type of mesh because that new grille has a beautiful soild thick trim.
