Newbie Here: Enhance sound w/o catback?
Only thing I feel weird about is I really don't want to lower my car again, so this will all be done on stock S suspension. Sound and tint in the coming weeks, but hesitant on rims.
Will it look weird not lowered? haha. I feel high while sitting in it, (compared to my old lowered RSX, but this car looks beautiful as is, from outside, and I'm tired of complaining about ride quality and clearances, and want to refrain from the extra thousands for what I'd want there.
As far as the R2C, it says here it's a CAI, not warm-air...

Is that not the case?
If you stick w/ 18s or 19s your G should look proper w/out a drop. Since you've already gone w/ a lowered ride and weren't thrilled w/ some of the compromises no need to go that route again. Plenty of nice wheel choices in the 18 or 19 size, and you could go w/ a nice staggered set of 18s or 19s w/ some aggressive rubber in the back so you can join us fat boys in this thread

i paid a thousand dollars for a unique muffler from hks shipped from japan its called hks legamax i believe i am the only g37 with one it keeps that unique vq sound without dramatically making a huge sound. 87db
I'm trying not to go crazy again with my new (used) car, but I acted quickly on my last one after purchasing it, and am following that trend again. The r2c intakes sit in the engine bay and draw air through the existing air holes that previously conducted air into the stock air boxes. If you want to draw any more air than that, you will need to pull air from the engine bay itself. The motor runs hot on this platform, so you will be pulling at least some warm air in.
A "proper" cold air intake will actually have tubes extending outside the engine bay and behind the grille to pull cold (denser) air into the manifold. There's nothing wrong with R2C, it is an easy enough install, looks good, and has heat shields to mitigate the heat soak somewhat. However, in my humble opinion, a set of Stillen Gen 3 intakes will net you more horsepower gains. I used to have a set of K&N intakes and I was not pleased with the performance. I'm much happier with my Stillen setup now.

The OEM air inlets are there, yes, as GFN just said. But the filter elements aren't in a closed system, regardless of the heat shields, so the air is being sourced from the immediate area. In OEM trim, those inlets are sucking air, they aren't scooping it.
All that said, don't worry about it. It's just an intake. Until you open the exhaust and get the car tuned, it's mostly a noise maker. A delightful one at that. You might notice in my sig line that I have the R2C Intake Kit, and I have zero regrets.
Here, this might be helpful to you for the install:

I think the idea is a true CAI has to get air directly from outside the engine compartment.
I agree with you OP my other car is a Honda Prelude that is just slammed. Tucking wheel on coilovers. I just do not want to lower my G37! Look into the 19" OEM wheels off of the G37S coupe. I think they look nice and subtle. Looks fine without a drop from what I've seen.

How did the drop ins and z1 tubes work out for you? Interested in a similar set up also.
