Hello All;

I am new to this forum and I am looking at a 2013 G37 Journey with Sports package + Nav + Premium.

I have a 2012 FX35 and both me and my wife find the ride too rough - My wife just doesnt want to drive it as she says it bounces her all the time! The 20" tires are not helping at all either

So, my options are:

1. Change the tire to like Dueler H/L Alenza from OEM. I am not sure how much improvement that will give..

2. Trade it (be equal trade) for a G37 Journey with sports + nav + premium package. I liked the sports package but with the 18" but with sports tuned suspension I am not sure if I will end up having the same ride feel as FX w/ 20" tireon this as well which defeats the purpose of trading the FX.

3. Get G37 without sports package

Has any G37 owners here have moved from FX35 and felt the difference/happy? Love the looks of FX and its interior..but I need to drive happy as well

Any ideas? Appreciate your inputs...

Honestly, if you're stuck on INFINITI, and based on what you've written here... look for a recently used M37 to fit the budget you're alluding to. More space, more comfort, more luxury, but similar characteristics in design and performance. Go CPO, if you want that new car experience, I suppose.

Other than that advice, I really can't relate to your problem. Different values.

 

I had 05 Infiniti FX35 and just recently purchased 2010 G37S sedan. IF you want a comfortable ride, I would highly recommend getting non-sport G37. First, the suspension is stiffer in sport v. non. Second, the driver seats in sport is unforgiving at times. I am 6-3 feet tall and 225 lbs, many times the seats are just ruff especially compared to non-sport. Lastly, my recent loaner was a non-sport and I enjoyed the ride as well as the driver seat. Sorry for my digression.

Bottom line: If you want comfort => option 3.

 

Are we talking rwd to rwd? Fyi - the g37xs has the 18s and the seats, but the same suspension as the journey.

I had an fx35 w the 20s, and thought the ride was pretty reasonable.- definitely stick with an rwd journey or xS.

 

if you are considering a different tire then the yokohama parada spec x is the way to go for a fx. I have them on my 06

 

The FX35 I have is AWD. I am going after RWD on G37..When I got one as loaner and floored it literally pushed me back to my seat and just blasted off! With my FX thats not the case..I am not sure if its due to type of car or AWD vs RWD..

Also are you saying the G37s has same suspension like journey and not the "sports package" one? - which I am going to steer away from due to sports tuned suspension as I am looking a more comfy ride here.

Thanks..I have read good reviews on that tires as well..but there are more complaints that its tough to balance and as result steering vibrates > 60mph and thats why the next choice was the Alenza..

How do you find the ride to be? Is it just tad better or noticeably good?

The Journey non-sport and AWD G37 have the same suspension. The Sport Package on the AWD G37 is appearance only.

The Journey w/Sport Package, and the 6MT, have a sport-tuned suspension. Basically, RWD w/Sport gets you the better suspension. But from what you've written here, you don't want that.

 

did your try the JX35 / QX60 ?

 

Sounds like journey non sport is the way to go for you. I have the Non sport because I like the comfort of the seats better as I am 6'3 and 230lbs. You can always upgrade from the 17s to 18s if it's that important to you, many people are selling their stock sport rims. To be honest, I find the Non sport seats to be some of the most comfortable car seats I have ever sat in.

 

Even the non sport G37 is bouncier and stiffer than the average car. I don't notice much of a difference when I drive FXs after my G. They both bounce my coffee out of the cup when driving down city streets.

Try a different brand of car.

 

As the others have mentioned - based upon what you have written, option 3 (no sports pkg) would be your best bet. I own both an S and a non-S....the S is noticeably stiffer.

Out of curiosity - what year G are you talking about here?

 

I am looking at 2013 model. Also trying to negotiate so the price is close to my trade in value. Have not told them I have a trade in yet..first wanted get the price fixed on g37..

I am also thinking of g37x with sports package where it is only going to be appearance with same suspension as non- sports. Is that the sports version you have and comparing your non-sports with or is it journey with sports package?

OK - I thought you said it was an 'equal trade' - hence my question. Sounds like there is negotiating to do. Having said that - you might have a little more leverage on the non-sport model as they are a bit more common.

My Gs are both RWD (live in Texas - less of a need for AWD here). So I regularly 'compare' the RWD Journey Sport to the Journey non-sport. Both are 7AT and optioned similarly.

I would drive all options over similar terrain - maybe w/wife aboard - and see which one you like the best.
