Congrats on the replacement car.

Yeah, the fast ratio steering on the RWD S is fantastic. Porsche caliber.

Congrats on the new car, ZM. Sounds like a nice find!

I have to agree with all of the above. The quick ratio steering and overall steering feel on the RWD G Sport package is one of the reasons I still have my G. I've driven everything from a Tesla to a Jaguar F-Type and Audi R as possible replacements for the G and other than a Porsche Cayman or an older E36 M3 (or my Porsche 944 S2) I haven't found any other cars that can match the G's steering. I'm excited about the Alfa Romeo Guilia, though, and have read great things about its steering and overall handling. But I'm a bit disappointed that we will only receive the 8AT and not the 6MT.

My first reactions to the Guilia were to gag at the over-styled design. But after a few months of seeing this car online, and reading reviews, I slowly started to develop an appreciation for the car...

...until I got to see one up close at the Auto Show. It did not impress, specs be damned.

Guys with a black interior... is the plastic finisher around your 3rd brake light black or beige?

Item #5 on page INT-19 in the FSM.

Seriously... yours is black? I bet you can guess why I'm asking.

I just checked with eBay, and apparently it's a readily available thing. Probably from part outs on totaled cars. And it comes in both beige (like mine) and black, for between $30 - $50.

What's "filler"?

I agree with you 100% on the styling of the Guilia. Looks a bit too much like a Pontiac from the front end and too much like a BMW from rear quarter view. That said, although styling is important I very seldom buy a car based soley on looks. The way a car drives is the most important factor for me. I recall back when I bought my E36 M3. I wasn't very fond of the looks and my wife didn't even want me looking at them since she thought they were so ugly. Then we drove one and that was that... We both agreed that would be the car I would be buying. It just felt right!

P100d. Nice! If you haven't driven or ridden in one yet then you definitely need to get a ride in it!

I test drove a P85d a couple years ago and was absolutely giddy over the acceleration (so I can only imagine what the p100d is like!). But overall I was just underwhelmed by the rest of the car. The steering feel is basically nonexistent (similar to the newer Q50) and the handling is just blah... The car feels too heavy and doesn't react well to steering inputs. And there's no way I could drive a car every day that has no intake or exhaust sound.. it just takes all that visceral feeling away from the driving experience and really just makes it a boring car to drive IMO.

I'm glad I could help subsidize his purchase with my tax dollars

Lol, when Americans talk about taxes... and Im just sitting here paying 35% on a 50k salary lol. O CANADA, the land where hardworking people carry everyone else, OH CANADA! haha. (Im kidding, its like 17%, still, BOOO)
Then you add municipal, provincial, federal, and now a green tax on gas... Paying something like $4 USD/USGalon

Its funny how growing up, I was always of the liberal mindset where socialism was a great idea for all. Now that my hard earned money is spent on our prime minsters 200k vacation, while people are losing homes over growing hydro bills, Im becoming more and more conservative.

Driving the Tesla S P100d was an experience like I've never had before. The car is very substantial, solid and comfortable. The suspension was stiff like a sport sedan, but still ate up the bumps in the road with ease.

The interior is spartan. Quite nice, but not "luxurious" by any means. More like a $50 car... and certainly not the 6 figures this thing costs. The giant screen is actually quite a distraction when driving. Trying to operate the radio or the HVAC controls through the touch screen is a total PITA.

The drive-by-wire is good, but a little numb. Fortunately, the steering wheel is excellent. Thick and padded with a flat bottom. And the handling was positively heroic, partly because of the AWD, and in part because of the gigantic 21" Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

But man oh man... the power this car has! It was incredible. The very first time I went full throttle from a standing stop in Ludicrous Mode almost made me faint. And I'm not kidding. It launched so hard, with such incredible rush, that I actually lost my balance, along with my breath. It was very disorienting, and actually a little scary. Never in my life experienced anything like that.

Oh, and regenerative braking is awesome! The best way I can describe it for 6MT owners is like driving around always in 2nd gear.

It's been hours, and thinking back on this experience still gets me wound up. I need to decompress.
