Good to know - my best friend had a Mazda B2500 for years that was essentially the same truck. Super reliable. Changing spark plugs was a pain though - 8 plugs on a 4cyl.
Right. Identical truck. One of my friends in the military had the Mazda version as well. Another friend had the small Toyota Tacoma of the time. Loved both of their trucks.
I have also read that the spark plugs can become seized in the cylinders. I had my mechanic replace them years ago when I bought the truck, so it's probably time to look at replacing them again (50K miles later).
I've come to the conclusion that these things are practically indestructible. My 1999, 250K miles, 3L-V6, 5MT, keeps on chugging. (Not the original owner mind you, but all the same).
There is something to be said for maintaining simplicity and a common platform for a decade (Tacoma did the same). The paint is fragile as hell, but the parts that matter are tough as hell.
When I hear someone say "that design is long in the tooth and the tech outdated", I think, ahhh, reliable.

The irony is that the paint on the Ranger is in MUCH better shape than the G... and both receive the same level of maintenance and coexist in the same environment. At some point the G will have to be repainted or vinyl wrapped.
