I would say it's scary to see the tachometer hand sticks in the red line and the car not going anywhere.

Really? Do you look away from the tach cus when I hit the gas my maxima gets up. It's not srt8, sti, ss, m56 fast but, it's fast enough to put a smile on my face (smile comes in part from not spilling .69 cent coffee from Quick Trip as well)

My friends maxima shifts horrible, if the juke shifted that way would have passed all together.
The shifts are just very lazy, if he shifts by hand forget it.

Now comparing to the Nissan juke, it has much less hp than 3.5 yet only a tiny bit slower.
The juke has has cvt, no manual for the awd.
cvt is not bad on a direct injection turbo charged 1.6 liter.
Power is seamless & if you put in sport mode.
it forms up the steering & adds more boost. 15psi stock.
Next a tune, will smooth out any lazy shifts that happen.

Being as the q50 does not have a turbo or direct injection, I don't think the power will be as smooth if it has cvt.

Expect some awkward shifting, again maxima cvt was clinking/making strange noises around the trans.

I hope they ditch the Torque convertor but how ?

What year is his max? There was a TSB for the transmission that addressed that. The 2013s max have the new cvt from the altima.

I don't know how they are addressing the torque converter but it should be exciting to see,

The CVT does not really "shift" btw, I've driven the gen 3 cvt's (JX, Altima) and it is smooth as butter, too smooth that it actually got boring.

Scenario 1: Combustion Engine Off, Electric Motor On -- gradual acceleration, low-speed urban driving. First clutch disengaged, engine shut off, second clutch engaged. Motor drives rear wheels and uses power from the lithium-ion battery pack.

Scenario 2: Engine On, Motor Off -- mid to high speeds. Both clutches engaged. The engine powers the wheels, while the wheel motion and motor help the recharge the batteries. The gearbox's high final gear ratio also aids efficiency.

Scenario 3: Engine Off, Motor Off -- deceleration or coasting. First clutch disengaged, engine shut off, second clutch engaged. Vehicle inertia (i.e. regenerative braking) recharges the batteries.

Scenario 4: Engine On, Motor On -- full acceleration. Both clutches engaged, while engine and motor power wheels. Batteries are discharged.

At the press event, a Nissan engineer outlined the M Hybrid's secret sauce: a gas engine/electric motor combo with twin clutches -- one dry, one wet. The former finds a home between the 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle combustion engine (good for 302 horsepower) and the lithium-ion-battery-powered electric motor (67 horsepower). The dry clutch sits last on the same propshaft as the motor and seven-speed automatic transmission, and is always engaged. Basically, the lineup goes, from front to rear: gas engine, dry clutch, electric motor, transmission, wet clutch (see diagram below).

The side by side same angle shots are very surprising to me. They share a lot more similarities than I'd have believed without viewing them side by side from each angle. The ones saying that Q50 design cues were taken from BMW are smoking dope. I can see how a person could have a preference for either one. The opinions seem quite myopic to me but if they like living in Beemer fantasyland that's probably a good place for them. I ain't mad at em for liking what they like. But some of the crazy bias in that thread makes some of the myopians here look pretty balanced and level headed.
