Question I can’t decide on the right Exhaust.

Without a care to cat-back, y pipe-back, axle-back or you-name-it-back. I can’t decide on the right application. I have been looking at the FI cat-back, but until recently started looking at the Tanabe axle-back. I get that the Tanabe has a mature sound to it that it is there when you need it and does not drone, but mellows out over time. Then I started looking at Greddy, which has a muscular sound to it, sounds great at idle, but draws a lot of attention. The Magna Flow from what I have read has a “raspy” or in some cases not a “rasp” sound to it. While the Stillen is more or less just a factory upgrade (just what I have read from others). There is Ark which I know even less about.

Between all of these incredible options, I am trying to find the “one solution”. I want something that sounds great when I want it, sounds great at idle, is not going to sound like a (for lack of a better term) "Cherry Bomb" at cruising speeds. A “one size, fits all” exhaust.

Anyone have any suggestions? What exhaust did you go with and why? What do you recommend and why?

All the sedan exhausts suck IMO.

The best one is prob the Greddy SE or ARK.

FI is maadddd quiet. Its pointless.

Tanabes sound.....disgusting.

Stillen is so so. Sounds a little fart-can-esque.

IMHO ARK is your absolutely best choice.
I went with ARK initially because they offered me a sponsorship but I am so happy I did. It is quiet when you want it to be, and roars when you want it to.

Now, granted, I have it for the coupe...but I really don't think the sedan application would be drastically different.

FI is not mad quiet by any means. No drone at all. Nice loud rumble when you start it up, and has a great low rumble when you step on it. My favorite exhaust I have had on any of my cars.

Invidia Q300 Rocks

Long weekend...

I just installed an ividia q300 sedan catback. For $784 shipped to my door from CVR, it was the cheapest full cat back available. From what I saw, the tanabe's were running high $500's. After looking at the dinky tube post resonator, I couldn't stomach almost 600 for mufflers. For $200 more you get a full 2.5 inch t-304 stainless cat back (FI, Stillen, HKS were too much). I took pics (will load them tomorrow), but waiting for a full break-into get wide open throttle vidieo. The sound is nice and deep, close to the G35 coupe's of 'ol. No drone on highway no rasp at all. When you're at cruise speed you can't even tell it's there. Punch in and it comes alive nicely.

I wanted a little extra power, but wanted to maintain some class of the G and set it aprat from the average G. Didn't want something too loud or riced out. No titianium tips...just rolled stainless. Fit and finish is top notch with nice welds. All hardware was included. Packing was good (One tiny dent on the passenger tube past the X-pipe). I installed it without a lift or jack, just some rhino ramps. took about 3 hours taking my time.

I also installed an injen SRI and Black Betty Grounding wires.

Total bill = $1180

very happy with all the purchases. Will have full write ups soon

First decide if you want a full cat-back exhaust or just axle back?

Axle back: costs less, install is a breeze, easy to swap back to OEM, nobody knows it’s axle back unless they look under your car.
Cat-back: costs more, install is more involved, not easy to swap back to OEM, nobody knows it’s a cat-back unless you tell them, adds 5-7 rwhp.

I think it’s an easy decision. I’ve done the cat-back thing a few times over the years. I’ve never noticed a seat of the pants improvement in power from any of them.

Stillen a "fart can"? Really? Not sure if you have heard in person but I have and it sounds nothing like a fart can. I hate the raspy sound you get with some of the exhaust and I think it just makes our cars sound cheap. I have actually heard a few different set ups and Stillen and FI get my vote. Once my cats are warm, there is no rasp and I just heard the FI this weeked (on a coupe) and it sounded great. Not sure abou the drone with FI but I get none with Stillen. Here is a vid that I found on youtube that helped me decide when I was shopping...doesn't sound like a fart can to me!

I agree, Stillen sounds great! Stillen is the best sounding full exhaust, but I think it sounds a like Tanabe. I think most of the aftermarket exhausts produce the VQ sound once the cats get warm. I noticed my exhaust sounds deeper and louder after my car is fully warmed up. I think it also has something to do with the rest of the exhaust getting warmed up and expanding a bit under the heat.

I agree. Nowhere near a fart can. And when that baby of yours opened up on the dyno... sweet aural bliss.

dude, me neither. i'm debating a custom exhaust setup, but i'm not really sure what makes an exhaust, an exhaust. it'll be cheaper, yes - but i want GAINS, which i may not see with a custom exhaust...you know what i mean? what makes an exhaust, an exhaust that sees gains...anyone? not a fan of any of 'em out there. the fi, i might consider with some freaking hfcs to make them sound a bit more ballzey

I went with the FI system due to the clean look and great sound, The FI system by no means is quiet...I think it has the perfect sound for my taste...I planned to use the system with the HFC's like the car I heard. If you want the FI system get on them since its a waiting list to get a system im on week 5 of waiting...

1. FI with HFC's
2. Ark
3. Stillen
