Wow..that's frustrating. Try recording it to have the proof.

I've tried Ozzy's stuffed gym bag trick, but the noise is still unbearable.

 

I thought the noise starts when car is in motion but the noise starts whenever the car hits 1,000 rpm. Try putting it in park and revving the engine to 1,000rpm and the sound starts. WHAT IS GOING ON!!! im going nuts.

 

On bad days, my noise comes immediately upon starting the car. I've resorted to wearing earplugs on those days in order to preserve my hearing. I can still hear the noise thru the earplugs.

 

Yeah, it's not movement, it just RPMs and throttle input. Stuffing blankets down in the footwell should work pretty well. Again, I am pretty sure that Dynamat on the inside of the dash parts would work well - a good stereo installer could do that for a 100 or 200 bucks probably. But that's just a theory. I sure hope infiniti comes out with a fix soon. I am still trying to sell/trade my car. I'd like to keep it, but that noise bugs me every day. I listen for it, which makes it worse.

Of course, the stereo masks the sound very well. That's what I do.

 

Yeah..it's sad that we are having to try to figure this out at all. I hope they figure something out soon as I can't continue to drive it this way.

 

yeah, and the ironic thing is that I never buy cars without driving them first. But I live 90 miles away from the dealer. I drove my car of choice, came home made decision and biught the car over the phone, and had them drive it up. The sales guy noted that I thought the car I drove had a little bit of wheel vibration, so he thought he'd be extra nice and give me the same model off the showroom floor - noooooooo! Didn't know until after I received the car and signed the papers. THIS car had the whine. Sales manager wouldn't take it back because I took too long to talk to him (true, three days, and the paperwork had gone through to the bank). So my fault, I could have returned it for a non-whiny or my old car back (G8 GT). My G8 had its problems, and wasn't pretty inside like the G, but at least it didn't go "eeeeeeeeeeeeee' nonstop.

 

Infiniti needs to realize that word-of-mouth is really going to affect their sales. People ask me all the time what I think about my G37 and I tell them the truth.... that I can't STAND driving that car and would not buy this car again if I'd known what I know now. This thread was started 10 months ago and there is STILL no solution. To me that means that Infiniti doesn't care about their customers. I wrote a formal letter of complaint to Infiniti (not that it'll do anything). But I think it's good that issue is starting to get more notice.

 

Honestly the chatter on this site isn't enough to make Infiniti pay the big $$ and deal with this issue. Letters to consumer reports and Edmonds are really the way to get them to take notice. A bad rating there will make them see the business case to fix instead of ignoring.

 

I wrote a letter to 'The Consumerist' a well-read consumer advocate blog from the Gawker media group, but it fell into a black hole, I think, as I haven't heard anything in a while.

 

My dealer said he'd get back to me, if not I'll call in Jan. Until then....

But since its a constant, for ECU's (most likely) at 10 kHz. Then my best guess is that the amplitude of the saw shaped output of the power supply going into the ECU must increase once the engine RPMs get over ~ 1000 RPMs, causing something in the ECU to vibrate (sort of like the high voltage electrical lines, or malfunctioning florescent lights) and emit noise. So, why not jst put a simple resistor in line to keep the ecu power level at the >1000 rpm level? Anyone taken apart their glovebox to get at it yet? If you live in the metro DC area and have, I'd be happy to come out and measure the volts going in and out of the ecu on an oscilloscope, and write a program on an arduino to solve this issue once and for all. Assuming that this is actually the issue, which it seems it probably is.

 

I just got a satisfaction survey call from Infiniti on my last service visit where I once again asked them to address the high frequency noise. I made it pretty clear that this was a serious issue and that Infiniti's reputation was on the line if there wasn't a fix soon. I told her that I genuinely think my dealer is trying to help resolve the issue, but is not getting the latest updates from Infiniti on resolving the issue. She said the info would be passed up the line, so I'll see if anything else happens.

 

As I've mentioned elsewhere, to me the sound sounds more like a computer hard drive being accessed rather than a high frequency pitch. You know the sound I mean? Does that describe what you folks hear or is it really a constant high frequency tone?

 

It's really constant when it happens, so I doubt it's the hard drive.

 

the hard drive sound he is mentioning is something else that i experience with my 6mt. if you try to roll up the windows when already up will make the same noise and really annoying when trying to take off, it makes the noise as you are in lower rpm and disengaging the clutch. are we on the same page ironmill?

 

I think i have lost my hearing over summer with my motorcycle cause i dont really hear the high pitch sound anymore. of course its always raining now. hard to spot it
