High-Pitch/Frequency Noise Poll
I check this thread occasionally to see if anybody has gotten it fixed and it seems as if my problem is unique. I have a high pitched ringing but it's is speed related and not RPM related. I can only hear it when I am moving between about 77 and 81 mph. I've tried to duplicate it when parked or in neutral but it's not there at any engine RPM. Yes, I now that is very specific and very odd, but that's the only time me or any of my passengers hear it. It's not there below that speed or above. Does anybody else have this exact issue?
I just bought my 2009 G37 three weeks ago, wish I had seen this thread prior to purchase. I took it back to the dealer and said high pitched noise, but they couldn't recreate the issue. I did some research and found this thread which I sent to the service manager at my dealership. He couldn't argue with 19 pages of documentation of the issue and called the corporate tech line. Evidently Infiniti is aware of the issue and investigating the issue. They told the dealership not to insulate the controller and not to replace it. They offered nothing in terms of fixing the issue or addressing my concerns just to wait til they find a way to fix it. I am in my early 20's so this thing is like a dog whistle and drives me crazy.
Just something I noticed today while my car was running... I stepped outside my car on the passenger side (with the passenger door open) and the noise was really loud outside. It wasn't audible outside the car from the driver side though. Has anyone else noticed this? It sounded like the same frequency to me, but louder. Maybe someone else can verify this on their car. Originally I thought this high frequency noise was confined to the interior of the car only. The weird thing is, I heard the noise but the accelerator wasn't depressed. Maybe this is a different high frequency noise though...
There are actually two noises reported...one supposedly from the ECU, and the other from the throttle bodies. I think you can hear the throttle body noise by turning on the ignition without starting the car and placing it into drive. That noise isn't very loud compared to what I'm hearing inside my car with the ECU or whatever it is.
Question...do you always have the noise, or does it come and go? I'm seriously thinking that there are events that trigger it since I have entire days where I don't hear the noise at all.

I think my noise is always present. There are some days where I don't notice it as much because I'm not paying attention. It seems like my noise is really loud when it rains though. After awhile I can't tell if it's the car or just the ringing in my ears from being exposed to that noise constantly. That sounds real healthy, doesn't it?
Bbb?
Has anyone reported this noise problem to the Better Business Bureau yet?

Last week I met with a District Technical Specialist (who works at the factory level) at my dealership regarding the noise. The meeting was arranged by the service manager and was more productive than my prior two meetings. The DTS immediately acknowledged that Infiniti is aware of a noise that is emitted from the ECM and is working on a fix; he said people have been putting dynamat around the ECM but did not recommend this, as it may cause overheating. He was not able to hear the noise in my G37 coupe 6MT or in his own sedan, but he was also about twice my age (28). He did give me his business card and followed up with me by e-mail the next day. He said that the issue is currently under investigation by engineering and that Technical Service Bulletins are typically issued for problems of this sort. I asked whether he had any additional information regarding how long the company has been aware of the problem and what time frame may be expected for a resolution/TSB, and he was not able to answer those questions. He did say that his office put in a request for an update and that he would let me know when he heard something.
If I don't hear anything, I plan on following up with the DTS after the new year to try to get more information.

I called around to some dealerships here in Atlanta to see if they were aware of the issue and if they had any fixes and one service advisor told me he has a customer who has the same issue and they reported it 5 months ago with no resolution to date. So hopefully they will figure it out soon rather than another 5 months from now.
