We've had our 2009 for about 2 months and 2500 miles. So far so good as we don't hear it. I took my 17 year old son out tonight in it and he can't hear it either. Hopefully the noise won't start up over time.... (fingers crossed).

from the descriptions I read about, it sounds like a switching power supply in the ECU is causing the problem. I bet Nissian knows what the issue is but the fix would be to redesign and replace ECU units which is very expensive. just a hunch.....

Infiniti is probably well aware of this issue but could care less since this isnt a safety issue and not every single owner can hear this noise. I called Infiniti corporate a few months ago to let them know of this issue. They were nice and acted like they cared but I know in reality my complaint went nowhere. I think we have enough owners here that if we all called Infiniti corporate, it would like a fire under them

I have a pretty bad creak that comes from that area and seems to have appeared around the same time the high pitched noise did. It may be a coincidence, but who knows at this point. I hear the creak when I turn into my driveway from the street. The driveway is probably 30 feet long and rises about 5 feet from the road to the garage. Maybe some frame bonding has come lose where the ECU is mounted and leaving it open for vibration. Also, I retract the 10 minutes before the noise starts as I stated earlier - this morning the noise started from the time I fired the car up. My ears are still ringing, so I know the DB level has to be extremely high.

Oh, and for those of you with lower mileage, don't count on not getting the noise. I had no idea what this post was about until 10/3 when it started up on a road trip. I was at 8K+ miles at that point. I thought it was just a rough section of pavement and something making a strange vibration until I started to hear that noise at regular intervals after that trip.

Oh great, just what I want to hear.... perhaps getting this info to comsumer reports mag would help light a fire under these guys to fix it.

I really hope you never get this problem.

Being an electrical engineer and working a large team of other engineers, I do think this is actually solvable (we have been discussing it). I think the largest problem is getting the ECU out from behind the dash. Once removed, I would look for any switching power supplies and the inductors used on those circuits. Switching to a high quality inductor and perhaps some materials to prevent high freq vibration.

Are we really sure that the problem is the ECU and not being caused by something else like the Nav display? I've noticed that the NAV display is still on even if you shut down the inputs to the screen. I can't seem to isolate where the noise is coming from since it seems to envelop the front part of the cabin with fairly equal noise. Do you or any of your team have equipment sensitive enough to find the sound, isolate the frequency, and determine DB levels?

Yes, I'd say that between you guys and the mass of 370z owners with the exact same problem, they have found it to be the ecu. "the 370z.com" has a rather long thread that mirrors this one. Nissan has indeed admitted that it is a defective ecu. Oh, well guess I stick to my lexus for now. The g37s manual really interests me except for this little ecu issue and the complaints about the leather seats. Why don't you guys motor over to the 370 site and compare notes.

Can you post the link to the discussion? There's really not much on the 370Z site that looks like it would be related to this topic. Maybe I'm not looking in the correct forum.

If I knew how I would..... It's in the general disc. forum half way down 2nd page right now. And that's "the 370z.com" not the other one. Actually there's more than one thread on it. Get it solved so I can buy one or the other (Z or G37)

yeah, it's the ECU for VQ37. More than half of them do this, I think.

I don't have any reason to think it's the ECU except what's said on here. I don't have the problem (yet & touch wood) so I can't say at all .

We do have scopes ect... but not the high freq directional mike that's required.
