November 5 Release or Dealer hold???

Nissannews and even the Infiniti press release state that the 2009 G37 Sedan and Coupe go on sale nationwide on November 5, 2008. Granted that not all dealers may receive their first shipments by then, but I keep reading in the forums that Infiniti is holding them at the port until much later in the year or potentially after first of the year.

What do the dealer guys know (DaMayor, etc.)? Any idea?

My dealer just called and said they didn't have any official news. I tried to press him on the Nov 5 date and he acted like he didn't know anything and then threw out the "we don't know pricing yet" BS.

I spoke with another salesperson and she acted like they already knew what they were getting on the 5th.

I think I'm being jerked around to try and get me in an '08...not going to happen.

I thought it kind of strange that Infiniti would issue an official press release stating Nov. 5 as the drop date and would then back pedal. They might as well bend over and lift up their skirt if they do that.

I'm not going to be the first in line for one BUT I'll be on their radar screen as a HOT PROSPECT should they feel the need to offload a car at month-end (for a deal). I've been the first in line before and you have ZERO leverage. This time, in this economy, I'm holding out to see how hungry they get for a sale. If it gets to year-end and they haven't pressed the right buttons prior...I'll pay them a visit and pick myself up an Xmas present.

I suspect they'll be glad to see a sales prospect. No way would I pay much above invoice for one. By way the USAA has a pretty good car buying service. I may use it when the time comes.

My dealer is always hungry to take business from the Lexus, BMA and Acura dealerships all within 2 miles of them and I have bought 2 cars from them previously so they are good to work with. They bought me out of a 10-month old 2004 Acura TL (the first year of the redesigned TL) to put me in a 2005 G35 Sport Aero Premium and were happy as hell to do so.

Usually the line "I'm also looking at the TL, the IS and 335i" gets the response of "what will it take to get you into the G......" and both times they jumped on what I told them I was willing to pay and that was when the market was flying high so we'll see this time around. I have no problem with a dealer making some money (honestly) and am willing to commit to giving them all my service business (doesn't mean I'll prepay the maintenance) but they will have to earn it.

There is also a new Infiniti dealer 20 miles up the road that is still trying to get it's feet under it so never hurts to play them off one another.

Just heard from a local dealer that they should be receiving '09s at any time. She asked me what I'm looking for and is going to be getting back to me tomorrow on availability.

I'll keep you in the loop as I learn more.
