So i’ve been seeing a lot post of people saying that a CAI won’t add that much performance boost because the stock intake does good enough on its own. Then I saw something about K&N Drop Ins adding 10-15 hp. Just wanted to get y’all’s opinions and if K&N Drop Ins are a better band for your buck than CAI.
At the end of the day, any performance gained is not going to be enough to be noticeable (unless there are other modifications as well, like test pipes, a tune, etc.). However what IS noticeable with a CAI is the change in the sound of your engine. So, in my mind, the only reason to get a CAI is if 1) you want better sound, or 2) you are installing it as part of several modifications to actually gain some significant performance. Personally, I installed a CAI because I love the sound.

The stock boxes flow really well, I've seen many owners pass the 300whp on these boxes. There are some dyno videos in comparison however the OEM boxes have a bottleneck in the feed.
I upgraded the feed to a 3.8 inch tube and I swear by it. In the Z groups there are a few race owners with this mod that agree as well.
Without tuning you wont really be gaining much, more so sound.
With tubular intakes you'd get sound right away and she'll be ready for tuning. Another plus of the intakes is how much space they free up in the bay.
Depending on which ones they might hold their value a bit.
I have 3.7 Q50 rear boxes with a custom front box fed by a 3.8 in tube + Tune, no exhaust. Pulled about a car racing a 370z with intakes and exhaust.

This is the best I got guys, did most of the adjustments in the car and painted over it so unfortunately doesn't look so pleasing however it does perform.
The final form so far is metal. Looking to get them done in plastic however cant find anyone to take on this project.
